Role Description The General Manager at ala is a part-time, on-site role based in Washington, DC, responsible for overseeing daily restaurant operations and ensuring an exceptional guest experience. The person in this role leads and supports front-of-house teams, manages staffing and scheduling, and maintains high service and hospitality standards. They monitor sales and costs, support inventory and ordering, and help uphold quality and consistency in food, beverage, and ambiance. The General Manager collaborates with ownership and key team members on service improvements, special events, and operational procedures, while fostering a respectful, inclusive, and positive work environment. This role also handles guest feedback, helps resolve issues in real time, and ensures adherence to health, safety, and local regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

Demonstrated experience in restaurant or hospitality management, with a strong focus on guest service and team leadership.

Ability to manage day-to-day operations, including staffing, scheduling, inventory support, and basic financial oversight.

Strong communication, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a diverse team and guest base.

Knowledge of food and beverage service standards, health and safety regulations, and on-site operational best practices.

Proven ability to remain calm and organized in a fast-paced environment, with strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Comfort with using point-of-sale systems and basic digital tools for reporting and scheduling.

Availability to work on-site in Washington, DC, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Prior experience in Mediterranean, Levantine, or culturally driven dining concepts is a plus; formal training in hospitality management or a related field is beneficial but not required.
