Job description
Role Overview Apply recent laboratory or computational biology expertise to help build and evaluate foundational AI models for science. This part-time role supports advanced AI research by translating practical knowledge in genomics, cell biology, and related disciplines into rigorous tasks, training data, and model evaluations.
Key Responsibilities Advise research and engineering teams to address knowledge gaps and improve model performance in molecular cloning, primer and CRISPR design, functional genomics, sequence analysis, and cell-based assays.
Create challenging biology tasks, benchmarks, and training data that cannot be readily solved through search, then produce accurate, clearly structured solutions for construct design, protocol planning, and assay troubleshooting.
Assess AI outputs and step-by-step reasoning for biology tasks, including the feasibility of proposed laboratory protocols and computational workflows, and provide clear written technical feedback.
Develop specifications, grading rubrics, and verification processes for biology data created by external technical teams, serving as a domain authority on data quality.
Work with other subject-matter experts to maintain consistency and accuracy across training data.
Qualifications PhD in molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, genomics, synthetic biology, biochemistry, or a closely related field.
Recent hands-on bench or computational experience with PCR or qPCR, molecular cloning, CRISPR, cell-based assays, sequence analysis, or functional genomics.
Experience across multiple organisms, model systems, and methods rather than one narrow technique.
Comfort using scientific software and AI tools, with no coding required.
Strong written communication, collaboration, and ability to explain complex technical decisions clearly.
Preferred: 1 to 3 years of post-PhD experience, or experience evaluating AI models or agents, designing benchmarks, or writing grading rubrics.
Work Terms Remote role for candidates based in London, UK, or the US East Coast.
Part-time, hourly engagement supporting a leading AI lab''s extended workforce.
Reliable weekday availability of at least 20 hours per week is required.
Compensation 70 to 100 per hour.
