Germanna Community College is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System. Germanna Community College is centrally located in Fredericksburg, VA between Washington D.C. and Richmond and between the Blue Ridge mountains and the Chesapeake Bay. This posting is intended to establish a pool of qualified adjunct candidates for anticipated instructional needs for 2027. Actual hiring and course assignments are contingent upon enrollment, scheduling demands, program needs, and funding availability. As a result, there may or may not be positions filled from this posting.
Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in a classroom environment to students with a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. We are currently seeking adjunct faculty members for daytime, in-person teaching assignments at our Culpeper location in the field of Geography. This position will work with the Future Educators Academy (FEA) a Virginia Collegiate Partnership Lab School. FEA must meet VDOE requirements for Virginia Teacher Licensure. Ideal candidates would hold a K12 Virginia Teaching License. If applicants do not hold an active k12 Virginia Teaching License, Germanna Community College may provide the opportunity for the additional VDOE requirements.
Duties and Tasks:
Teach specific classes in the designated discipline.
Develop course syllabi and instructional materials.
Maintain records, assign grades, and assess student progress.
Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of GCC and the VCCS.
Maintain current competence in the particular discipline or field of specialization.
Essential Functions:
As a part of the primary responsibility to provide quality instruction, the College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly; submit required records and reports routinely; teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts; and adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with College policies, procedures, and regulations.
Please note: This wide salary range reflects the diverse faculty ranks within the Virginia Community College System (VCCS). Final salary determination and placement within this range are based on the candidate's academic credentials and occupational experience as evaluated via the VCCS-10 process.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree with at least eighteen graduate semester hours in the specific discipline
Official transcripts will be required prior to final offer
Ability to demonstrate the use of relevant technology and learning management systems to effectively facilitate teaching, learning, assessment, and communication
Commitment to student engagement in the online teaching environment including maintaining consistent communication and virtual support mechanisms to ensure student success.
Technology capability (access to WIFI, computers) to teach remotely
All teaching positions of Germanna Community College require the ability to teach in a variety of modalities including virtually.
Demonstrate competency and commitment to continuous professional development in virtual education.
Complete Growing with Canvas and TOPS 2.2 prior to teaching
Experience with or willingness to learn artificial intelligence tools
Additional Considerations:
FEA Requirements: Valid Virginia K12 Teaching License (preferred) or willingness to seek licensure
Prior teaching experience
Work experience in the field
Experience with on-line teaching.
Planning and teaching courses in the classroom
Creating curriculum that meets the needs of the students and learning outcomes
Support student success
Communicate effectively with students and colleagues
Assess student learning and meet the requirements of the program
Perform other duties as assigned
