Join Our Team TodayUniversal Stainless & Alloy Products, Inc. is seeking a reliable and motivated Grinder Operator to join our team in Bridgeville, PA. This position plays an important role in preparing steel products for rolling or reheating by removing surface impurities and abnormal conditions while maintaining a safe, productive, and clean work environment.The ideal candidate is dependable, comfortable working in a heavy industrial environment, able to work a rotating schedule, and willing to learn and operate a variety of industrial equipment.Position OverviewThe Grinder operator is responsible for grinding impurities and abnormal surface conditions from steel ingots and other material while removing the minimum amount of good metal necessary. The position requires attention to detail, good eye/hand coordination, mechanical aptitude, and ability to follow work order instructions.Employees will operate grinders, forklifts, cranes, and other equipment while maintaining a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivity.Basic Responsibilities:Set up and position material for grinding and conditioningOperate Gantry, Midwest, and Tysman grindersOperate forklifts and cranes as necessaryChange grinding wheels as requiredSafely operate grinding equipment and follow established operating proceduresCondition material according to mill work order instructionsInspect material and notify the supervisor of non-conforming productReport production, delays, and other operational information as requiredReport equipment problems or maintenance concerns promptlyMaintain a clean, organized, and safe work areaWork safely and productively while meeting production expectationsPerform other duties as assignedSafety-Sensitive PositionThis is a safety-sensitive position in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment. Employees are expected to follow all company rules and procedures, properly use required PPE, and immediately report unsafe conditions or equipment concerns.Work Environment:Grinding equipment and sparks while inside a cab operated grinding machineHeat and hot steelNoise and dustHeavy machineryForklifts and overhead cranesMoving steel productsRequired personal protective equipmentEmployees must be comfortable working in an industrial environment and following all safety requirements.Skills:Strong work ethic and reliable attendanceAbility to arrive at work on time and be ready to workGood eye/hand coordinationMechanical aptitude and willingness to learn industrial equipmentAbility to follow written and verbal instructionsStrong attention to detailAbility to work in a fast-paced production environmentAbility to work independently and as part of a teamAbility to maintain productivity while managing changing prioritiesCommitment to workplace safety and qualityExperience:Previous experience in a steel-related or heavy manufacturing environment preferredExperience operating grinders, forklifts, cranes, or other industrial equipment is preferredManufacturing or warehouse experience is a plusEducation/Training:High School diploma or GED is requiredEmployees will receive training on the Gantry, Midwest, and Tysman grinders and other equipment required for the positionSchedule:12-hour shifts:7:00AM-7:00PM7:00PM-7:00AMTimken schedule:7 days on/3 days off7 nights on/4 days offEmployees must be flexible to work both day and night shifts.
