At Hy-Vee, our produce department is one of the first impressions we make on every customer who walks through the door, and our Produce Clerks play a big role in making it a great one. In this role, youll keep the department stocked, fresh, and inviting while delivering the kind of friendly service that keeps customers coming back. Whether youre rotating product, checking in deliveries, or helping a customer find what they need, your work makes a real difference every single day.
No two shifts are exactly the same, but heres what you can expect:
Deliver outstanding customer service by greeting every customer with a smile, assisting them with their needs, and going the extra mile to make their shopping experience a great one
Review the status and appearance of merchandise for freshness and replenish and rotate product to maintain quality standards
Practice proper sanitation procedures and keep the work area clean, neat, and safe at all times
Order product and supplies and price products for customers as needed
Answer the phone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who call
Follow Hy-Vees dress code, hygiene standards, and all department and company guidelines
Pitch in with other tasks or special projects as they come up

Communicate clearly with customers and co-workers and contribute positively to the team
Learn and apply proper sanitation, food safety, and department procedures
Store Director; Store Manager; Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, Health Wellness Home; Produce Department Manager; Assistant Produce Department Manager
Less than high school diploma or equivalent experience accepted
Six months or less of similar or related work experience; well provide all the training you need to succeed
Frequently stand and walk throughout a shift in sales, food service, or delivery areas
Where applicable to the role: ability to safely use sharp knives and blades for food preparation
Where applicable to the role: exposure to heat- and burn-related hazards associated with cooking, baking, or grilling equipment
Perform repetitive standing, walking, reaching, and bending associated with order fulfillment, POS transactions, and cleaning/sanitation duties
Youll work in the produce department and can expect frequent exposure to temperature extremes and dampness, as well as possible equipment movement hazards, electrical equipment, and cleaning chemicals and solvents. Safety is always a priority, and training is provided to help ensure a safe and supportive work environment.
