Job description

GroundskeeperReports to: Director of MaintenancePrimary Purpose: Maintain safe and attractive grounds and landscaping for the district. Maintain athletic fields.Qualifications: Education/Certification: Valid Texas driver's licenseSpecial Knowledge/Skills: Ability to understand detailed written or oral instructions Ability to communicate effectively Ability to operate power-driven equipmentExperience: NoneMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Grounds and LandscapingMow and detail all district grounds, including athletic fields.Follow scheduled maintenance plan to care for lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers by watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, caring for beds, and controlling weeds.Plant shrubs and vegetation.Assist with the preparation of athletic fields for games, including chalking fields.Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from district facilities.Assist with the inspection, repair, and installation of sprinkler systems.SafetyOperate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures.Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing.Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.Help keep vehicle, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed.OtherTransport workers and equipment to work sites throughout the district.All other duties as assigned.Customer Care SkillsProvide professional communication with students, parents, community members, staff, and other professionals at all times.Use proper phone etiquette at all times, speaking slowly and clearly.Take reliable messages, and route to the appropriate staff.Ensure superior customer care skills are used via eye contact, facial expressions, voice inflections, body language, and an attitude of "going the extra mile" for others.Ensure all requests for information are dealt with in an appropriate timeframe.Create and maintain a welcoming, service-oriented environment toward all internal and external customers.Supervisory Responsibilities: None.Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Tools/Equipment Used: Garden tools; small hand tools; power tools; heavy equipment including backhoe, tractor, grader; and power mower; light truck or vanPosture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positionsMotion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent drivingLifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basisEnvironment: Work outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemical (herbicides and fertilizer) and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travelMental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stressAdditional Job Information: Applying for this posting places your name in a pool of applicants who wish to be considered for this position.
