GroundskeeperWage/Hour Status: NonexemptReports to: Director: Facilities & OperationsPay Grade: 2 Auxiliary – 260 DaysDept./School: Facilities & OperationsPrimary Purpose:Maintain safe and attractive grounds and landscaping for the district. Maintain athletic fields.Qualifications:Education/Certification:Valid Texas driver's licenseSpecial Knowledge/Skills:Ability to understand detailed written or oral instructionsAbility to communicate effectivelyAbility to operate power-driven equipmentAbility to operate tractor and landscaping equipmentExperience:NoneMajor Responsibilities and Duties:Grounds and LandscapingMow and detail all district grounds, including athletic fields.Follow scheduled maintenance plans to care for lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers by watering, pruning, fertilizing, mulching, caring for beds, and controlling weeds.Care for trees, shrubs, and flowers by watering, pruning, mulching, caring for beds, and controlling weeds.Plant shrubs and vegetation.Assist with the preparation of athletic fields for games, including chalking fields.Collect and dispose of leaves, dirt, rubbish, and refuse from district facilities.Assist with the inspection, repair, and installation of sprinkler systems.Perform all other duties as assigned.SafetyOperate tools and equipment according to prescribed safety procedures. Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting and climbing.Correct unsafe conditions in work area and promptly report any conditions that are not immediately correctable to supervisor.Help keep vehicle, equipment, and tools in safe operating condition.Inspect and adjust tools and equipment for safety and efficiency and perform preventive maintenance as needed.Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing etc.Supervisory Responsibilities:NoneMental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:Tools/Equipment Used:Tractor and mower, riding and power mower, gas-powered weed trimmer, blower, edger, sprayer, chainsaw, garden and hand tools, posthole auger, aerator. Light truck or van and trailer.Posture:Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting; work in tiring and uncomfortable positionsMotion:Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent drivingLifting:Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basisEnvironment:Work outside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, noise, vibration; exposure to chemical (herbicides and fertilizer) and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travelMental Demands:Maintain emotional control under stressContinual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, heavy lifting and carrying.
