Job Description
nThe GSE Build Technician II independently performs fabrication, assembly, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, verification, and modification of Ground Support Equipment (GSE) supporting production, testing, and launch operations. This role works closely with GSE Engineering, Test Operations, Launch Operations, Quality, and other technical organizations to build and maintain test stands, launch infrastructure, mechanical and fluid systems, and supporting equipment.
nWork may include stainless-steel tubing and piping, valves, regulators, instrumentation, fluid panels, structural supports, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, high-pressure gas and cryogenic systems, pumps, and other mechanical GSE. Level II Technicians independently execute defined scopes of work, from reviewing assignments and preparing tools and materials through fabrication, installation, troubleshooting, verification, and documentation. They are expected to resolve routine problems independently and recognize when Engineering, Quality, EHS, or leadership involvement is required.
nLevel II operating principle: Give me the work.
nThis role is located at our customer’s production facility in Briggs, Texas, north of Cedar Park.
nResponsibilities
nIndependently build, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, modify, and upgrade launch pad, test stand, production, and facility GSE.
nFabricate and install mechanical and fluid-system assemblies from released engineering documentation, including tubing, piping, valves, regulators, gauges, instrumentation, manifolds, panels, supports, and associated hardware.
nMeasure, prepare, bend, route, fit, and install stainless-steel tubing and piping using approved methods and materials.
nInstall common mechanical and fluid connections, including compression fittings, NPT, AN/MS-style connections, flanges, and other approved interfaces; properly select and install seals, fittings, and hardware.
nPerform controlled fastener installation and torque operations using calibrated tooling while maintaining high standards for workmanship, cleanliness, component orientation, accessibility, and support placement.
nRead and independently interpret mechanical, fabrication, and assembly drawings, schematics, P&IDs, work instructions, and other technical documentation; compare installed hardware against engineering requirements and identify configuration discrepancies.
nPlan and prepare assigned work by identifying required tooling, hardware, materials, consumables, access equipment, and supporting resources; anticipate upcoming tasks and coordinate parallel work to minimize downtime.
nPerform dimensional and visual inspections, routine troubleshooting, system verification, leak checks, flushing, cleaning, commissioning, and other qualified test activities.
nSupport high-pressure gas, cryogenic, hydraulic, pneumatic, pump, valve, and other stored-energy systems, including hydrostatic proof testing and pneumatic testing when trained and qualified.
nFollow pressure-system controls, exclusion zones, barricading, stored-energy controls, LOTO, FOD, ESD, PPE, contamination-control cleanliness, and other applicable safety and quality requirements.
nRecognize conditions requiring Engineering, Quality, EHS, or leadership involvement and provide constructability and operability feedback when issues are identified.
nSupport test-stand and launch-site construction, system modifications, upgrades, verification, commissioning, and maintenance activities.
nParticipate in rigging, crane, forklift, aerial-lift, and other material-handling activities when trained and qualified.
nMaintain clean, organized, flight-ready and test-ready work areas and complete required equipment and work-area inspections.
nDocument work in JIRA or other assigned electronic work-management systems, including installation photos, configuration details, discrepancies, constraints, and outstanding actions.
nCoordinate work with adjacent technicians and work groups; support Level I technicians through hands-on instruction, demonstration, and informal mentorship.
nParticipate in continuous improvement activities involving tooling, work sequencing, organization, fabrication methods, and execution processes.
nSupport test and launch operations under the direction of the applicable operations or engineering organization.
