Job description
Gun Drill MachinistAs a Gun Drill Machinist, you will set up and operate gun drilling equipment to produce deep, precise bores that meet blueprint, dimensional, surface finish, and quality requirements.Key responsibilities include:Set up and operate gun drill machinesRead and interpret blueprints, GD&T requirements, routers, and work instructionsSelect and set up drills, tooling, and workholdingLoad parts and verify secure workholdingMonitor coolant pressure, coolant flow, and chip evacuationAdjust feeds and speeds within authorized limitsControl drilling depth, hole straightness, bore size, and surface finishRecognize tool wear and perform tool changesTroubleshoot drift, straightness, dimensional, finish, and chip evacuation issuesPerform first-piece and in-process inspectionsUse calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, indicators, and other precision measuring equipmentComplete production, inspection, and traceability documentationSupport preventive maintenance activitiesMaintain a clean, organized, and safe work areaAssist with continuous improvement initiatives and support team training when neededRequired QualificationsHigh school diploma or GEDAbility to read engineering drawings and manufacturing instructionsUnderstanding of GD&T principlesAbility to use precision measuring equipmentAbility to maintain accurate production and inspection recordsAbility to work independently and as part of a manufacturing teamPreferred QualificationsExperience with CNC machining, gun drilling, deep-hole drilling, or precision machiningExperience in medical device, aerospace, or other tight-tolerance manufacturing environmentsSkills for SuccessGun drill setup and operationBlueprint readingGD&T interpretationWorkholding and part alignmentDrill selection and setupFeed and speed adjustmentsCoolant and chip managementTool wear recognitionBore size and finish verificationTroubleshooting machining issuesFirst-piece and in-process inspectionMedical device documentation practicesPreventive maintenanceTeamwork, reliability, and communicationAt ARCH Medical Solutions, quality, safety, and continuous improvement are part of everything we do.
