nThe Salvation Army’s Springfield Corps., is hiring a Gun Violence Prevention Educator and offers the following benefit package to part-time employees:

nHours/week: 20 hours per week

nTuesday: 11:00am – 6:00pm

n Wednesday: 11:00am – 6:00pm nnnn Thursday: 12:00pm – 6:00pm nnExemption: Non-exempt

nPay Range : $16.00 - $25.00 per hour

nstarting pay varies depending on experience and qualifications

nThe Gun Violence Prevention Educator is responsible for designing, implementing, and teaching educational programs aimed at reducing gun violence for at-risk youth. The educator will work with various stakeholders, including schools, community organizations, law enforcement, and local government, to promote gun safety, awareness, and conflict resolution strategies for at-risk youth. The role involves delivering training, conducting workshops, and supporting efforts to prevent gun violence through proactive education and community engagement.

nDuties & Responsibilities:

nnnProgram Development & Delivery:

n

nnDevelop and implement educational programs focused on gun violence prevention, including gun safety, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation strategies.

n

nnCreate curriculum and training materials tailored to different age groups and community demographics.

n

nnLead and facilitate workshops, seminars, and outreach activities to raise awareness and educate youth about the risks of gun violence.

n

nnCommunity Outreach & Engagement:

n

nnEstablish and maintain relationships with local schools, community organizations, and other stakeholders to promote gun violence prevention initiatives.

n

nnOrganize and participate in community events, forums, and discussions to increase awareness and build partnerships.

n

nnProvide resources and support to community members and families affected by gun violence.

n

nnData Collection & Reporting:

n

nnMonitor and evaluate the effectiveness of gun violence prevention programs.

n

nnCollect data through surveys, focus groups, and feedback to assess program outcomes and community impact.

n

nnPrepare and submit regular reports on program progress, community engagement, and educational outcomes.

n

nnAdvocacy & Public Speaking:

n

nnRepresent the organization at local government meetings, community gatherings, and other public forums to advocate for policies that reduce gun violence.

n

nnEngage in public speaking opportunities to educate diverse audiences about the importance of gun violence prevention.

n

nnCollaboration with Law Enforcement & Stakeholders:

n

nnWork closely with law enforcement agencies, local officials, and other partners to support gun violence prevention strategies and policies.

n

nnCollaborate with mental health professionals and social service agencies to address the root causes of violence and offer support to those impacted.

n

nnResource Development & Distribution:

n

nnDevelop and distribute educational materials, such as pamphlets, posters, and digital content, to inform the community about gun violence prevention measures.

n

nnProvide training to school staff, parents, and other community leaders on identifying warning signs of violence and how to respond effectively.

n

nnCrisis Intervention & Support:

n

nnAssist in the coordination of crisis intervention services for individuals or families impacted by gun violence.

n

nnOffer guidance and resources to those who have experienced gun violence to help them heal and rebuild.

n

n nQUALIFICATIONS

nEducation Requirements:

nnnBachelor’s degree in education, social work, public health, criminal justice, or a related field (Master's degree preferred) or 10 years’ experience

n

nnCertification in violence prevention or conflict resolution.

n

n nWork Experience:

nnnProven experience in community outreach, violence prevention, or education, with a focus on gun violence or related areas.

n

nnExperience in program development, evaluation, and reporting.

n

nnExperience working with youth, families, or marginalized communities.

n

n nOther Qualifications:

nnnStrong understanding of gun violence issues, prevention strategies, and relevant laws and policies.

n

nnExcellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.

n

nnAbility to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational and time management skills.

n

nnPassionate about community education, social justice, and reducing violence

n

nnBilingual or multilingual proficiency.

n

nnKnowledge of local gun violence data, trends, and community resources.

n

nnThis position may require occasional evening or weekend hours for events or workshops.

n

nnTravel within the community or region for outreach activities may be necessary.

n

nnFlexibility in work schedule based on program needs.

n

n nPhysical Requirements:

nne) Operate various other office equipment including personal computers, copiers, fax machines, and scanning equipment.

nnf) Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally.

nng) Ability to travel throughout the Division

nnh) Ability to be creative, original, intuitive, and perceptive.

nni) Ability to think logically and critically.

nnj) Ability to envision a project from beginning to end.

nnk) Ability to solve complex problems, make appropriate judgments and decisions
