Gunsmith Technician
Part Time/Full-Time
Job Summary
This position is designed for someone who has an intermediate understanding of firearms, is mechanically inclined, enjoys working with their hands and wants to develop professional firearm repair, firearm compliance and gunsmithing skills. The Gunsmith Technician is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and proper functioning of all rental firearms, performs general gunsmithing services at the direction of the Gunsmith, and assists customers with inquiries about gunsmithing services offered. *Prior professional gunsmithing experience is NOT required. We are willing to train the right person .
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Gunsmith Technician will assist with and, as training and experience permit, perform:
Basic firearm inspection, cleaning, maintenance and repair
Firearm disassembly and reassembly
Diagnosis of common mechanical and functional issues
Installation and replacement of sights, optics, grips, stocks and other components
Installation of manufacture-approved replacement and upgrade parts
Basic fitting and adjustment of firearm components
Maintenance and repair of RTSP rental firearms
New Jersey firearm compliance work, in accordance with current legal requirements and RTSP procedures, including but not limited to: Rifle stock pinning
Muzzle-device pinning and welding
Installation and permanent attachment of compliant components
Other routine firearm compliance modifications
Preparation and documentation of customer firearms entering and leaving service department
Maintaining an organized, professional and safe work area
Assisting experienced staff with more advanced repairs and gunsmithing work
Developing additional gunsmithing capabilities as training and experience progress
Maintains the stability and reputation of the store by complying with legal requirements
Knowledge of company's mission, purpose, and goals
Thorough knowledge of the facilities security policy and procedures
Stay current on product knowledge, general firearms laws and safety procedures
REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS: Must have an intermediate working knowledge of all types of firearms, firearm accessories and firearm operations
Strong mechanical aptitude
Good hand-tool skills and the ability to work carefully with small mechanical components
An ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems logically
The ability or willingness to learn the use of basic shop equipment and tools
Great customer service, communication, and organizational skills
Strong attention to detail and eye for perfection in work
Ability to learn skills and techniques from experienced Gunsmith
Ability to maintain quality as mandated by Gunsmith
Ability and willingness to work cooperatively with others
Safely handle firearms and follow established policies and procedures
The ability to satisfy all applicable requirements for employment in a NJ firearms business
Complete a bi-annual shooting qualification
High degree of discretion dealing with confidential information
High school degree or equivalent
Must pass background check
Must be 18 years or older
Knowledge of CounterPoint a plus but not required
Experience in gunsmithing, armorer work, machining, welding, automotive or motorcycle repair, mechanical trades, military or law-enforcement armorer duties, or similar hands-on technical is a plus, but is not required.
