Hand Therapist, Occupational & Physical Therapy

URochester Medicine is seeking a Hand Therapist to join our Hand Rehabilitation team in Rochester, NY. This full-time, onsite role is open to New York State-licensed Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists with relevant clinical education in hand and upper extremity rehabilitation.

You’ll evaluate patients, develop individualized treatment plans, provide hands-on therapy, and help patients improve function and independence following upper extremity injury, disability, or other conditions affecting the hand and arm.

Opportunity to build specialty expertise: Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) certification is preferred, not required.

Collaborative care: You’ll work with patients, families, physicians, nursing staff, and other members of the healthcare team throughout the rehabilitation process.

The Clinical Work:

Evaluate upper extremity function: Assess patient abilities and limitations using clinical testing, observation, patient history, and information from family members and the care team.

Develop individualized treatment plans: Plan and provide therapy based on diagnosis, prognosis, functional needs, patient goals, and environment.

Support recovery and independence: Educate patients and families on equipment, therapeutic techniques, and adaptive strategies while recommending assistive devices or modifications when appropriate.

Monitor and adjust treatment: Determine appropriate therapy approaches and frequency, track progress, and recommend changes to the plan of care as needed.

Maintain strong clinical practice: Complete required patient and department documentation and stay current with developments in Physical and Occupational Therapy practice.

Background & Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy required

Basic foundational knowledge of Physical or Occupational Therapy Practice

Licensed as an Occupational Therapist or Physical Therapist in New York State

Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) preferred
