About this opportunity

RF Poker lists this Hardware Engineer opportunity in northern, Kentucky. Review the employer’s description below for duties, qualifications and application requirements.

Job description

RF Labs’ mission is to deliver intelligence from every game. We started with professional poker and have expanded to all card games, providing an elevated experience for players, social groups, viewers, and operators. We embed RFID technology in our tables, chips, and cards while integrating it with computer vision to maximize tracking accuracy. Our hardware uses state-of-the- art sensor fusion while our software makes the value seem endless.

As a small, fast-paced team, we foster deep collaboration and ownership. You’ll work directly with all members of the team and have a meaningful input across all aspects of the business, from initial concepts through to shipping products.

Foundation building: Help establish our core product and operation practices and shape the future of our technology and team culture.

Collaborative environment: Work alongside talented engineers and operators in an environment that values continuous learning and innovation.

Direct impact: Have a real voice in product direction and company strategy. Your insights will directly impact our success.

Growth opportunities: As an early-stage company, all team members will receive many opportunities to take on leadership roles and expand their responsibilities as we grow.

What you’ll do

We are looking for someone to be our Swiss Army knife for all hardware and electronics. As an engineer at RF Labs, you’ll be responsible for the physical and technical aspects of our products, networks, and installations.

Hardware design: Work on table physical design including RFID antennas, control box electronics, and A/V systems.

Prototyping: Build and test rapid prototypes using CAD, 3D printing, laser cutting, electronics, and off-the-shelf components to validate concepts before production.

Research and development: Conduct R&D for future products including physical product design, new game verticals, new tracking mechanisms, electrical component designs, and optimizing table performance.

Networking and A/V: Handle customer locations’ networking, installation processes, and audio/video setups.

Logistics: Manage shipping and installation logistics across all global hardware deployments.

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a hands-on mechatronics engineer with experience in mechanical design, electrical engineering, programming, and technical problem-solving. The ideal candidate should have:

High agency: You find the problems worth solving and own them through the outcome. Some weeks that means building in a lab. Some weeks it means working directly with the customer to perfect a product.

Technical expertise: Strong understanding of mechanical design, networking, and electrical engineering. Ability to CAD is necessary, while programming and PCB design abilities are also preferred.

Problem-solving skills: Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and optimize system performance based on existing infrastructure.

Equipment and tools: Ability to handle equipment installation and manage logistics to procure custom manufactured products. Experience with power tools, 3D printing, laser cutting, water jetting, welding, and soldering is preferred.

Proven experience making physical things: Show us products, internships, shop work, field work, or personal projects. One thing you actually shipped tells us more than a résumé does.

Attention to detail: You notice the cable that will get kicked, the part that will fail, or the finish that looks cheap under venue lights, and it bothers you until it is fixed.

AI-pilled: You use AI tools to learn faster, explore ideas, and ship better work. You still bring your own judgment about what should exist.

Collaborative and flexible mindset: Ready to work with a small, fast-paced team on a variety of problems that will change on a day-to-day basis.

What we offer

We’ll treat you well. If there are any other benefits that are important to you, we’d like to hear.

Competitive salary, equity: Multiple options based on your desire for ownership.

Benefits: Health insurance options for all employees.

Collaborative work space: Our team works in‑person every day at the Atlanta Tech Village with private office space, an RF Table, and many other amenities. You also get the opportunity to meet employees from hundreds of other companies, compete in our weekly ping pong tournaments, and take part in frequent community events. And free snacks.
