Job description

We Want the Coaches Students Remember.

UFIT is looking for experienced Head Coaches with strong collegiate, professional, or high-level competitive sports backgrounds to lead our school-based sports and athletic-development programs throughout Los Angeles County.

We are especially interested in former NCAA Division I and Division II athletes and coaches, professional athletes, collegiate coaches, and proven high-level competitive coaches who can bring real athletic knowledge, leadership, discipline, and mentorship to young people.

But athletic experience alone is not enough.

A UFIT Head Coach must be able to lead a complete program, develop other coaches, teach athletes, communicate with school leadership, solve problems, and take ownership of the quality of the site.

What You'll Lead

As a UFIT Head Coach, you are the on-site leader responsible for both coaching quality and team performance.

You will:

Lead structured sports, physical education, and athletic-development programming.

Teach proper technique, movement, coordination, conditioning, teamwork, and sport-specific skills.

Demonstrate skills and break them into clear, age-appropriate progressions.

Keep students actively participating, learning, and improving.

Direct Assistant Coaches and assign staff to groups, drills, stations, and responsibilities.

Observe Assistant Coaches and provide clear coaching, feedback, and correction.

Develop newer coaches into stronger instructors and leaders.

Lead pre-program staff huddles and make sure the team understands the plan.

Maintain organized transitions, equipment, student groups, and program flow.

Identify safety concerns and make immediate adjustments when needed.

Communicate professionally with principals, teachers, administrators, and UFIT leadership.

Track student engagement, skill development, and program outcomes.

Complete required attendance, UFIT Motion, incident, and End-of-Day documentation.

Follow through on staffing, equipment, school requests, and operational issues until they are resolved or properly escalated.

Professional or semi-professional athletic experience

Collegiate coaching experience

Championship-level high school coaching

Elite AAU, club, academy, travel, or competitive sports coaching

A strong record of developing athletes who advanced to collegiate or elite competition

We are looking beyond the résumé.

A former D1 athlete who cannot lead people is not automatically a Head Coach.

A UFIT Head Coach must be able to walk onto a site and demonstrate:

Leadership. Organization. Coaching ability. Judgment. Reliability. Communication. Accountability.

Required Qualifications

3+ years of coaching, athletic instruction, player development, or comparable sports leadership experience

Strong competitive athletic or coaching background

Demonstrated ability to lead or mentor other coaches, instructors, athletes, or staff

Ability to confidently demonstrate and teach athletic skills

Understanding of progressive athlete development - not just games and drills

Strong communication and leadership skills

Ability to manage multiple student groups and coaching staff

Dependable attendance and punctuality

Professional communication with school personnel

Reliable transportation throughout Los Angeles County

Comfortable using mobile technology for attendance and program documentation

Strongly Preferred

Former NCAA Division I or Division II athlete

NCAA collegiate coaching experience

Professional or semi-professional playing experience

Head Coach, Lead Coach, or Program Director experience

Degree in kinesiology, physical education, exercise science, sports management, education, or a related field

Experience developing athletes for collegiate competition

Multi-sport coaching experience

Experience working with elementary and/or middle school students

What Success Looks Like at UFIT

A strong Head Coach does more than have a good session.

Your site should consistently demonstrate:

High-quality sports instruction

Strong student participation and engagement

Athlete skill progression

Safe and organized programming

Assistant Coaches who understand their assignments and improve under your leadership

Strong relationships with school administrators

Reliable attendance and staffing

Accurate program documentation

Professional communication

Problems identified early and followed through to resolution

You are responsible for your performance and the performance of the team you lead.
