Location: Redwood City, CA / Hybrid, minimum 3 days per week in office

Technology: This Greylock-backed company is building an adaptive, AI-native platform for managing and securing enterprise endpoints. Its architecture uses intelligent agents that can reason, coordinate, and act across distributed device environments, combining agentic systems, on-device AI, automation, and security infrastructure.
Opportunity: The company is looking for a highly technical, hands-on Head of AI to become its primary machine learning leader, both internally and externally.
You will define the AI strategy and technical roadmap while remaining close to architecture, experimentation, model development, evaluation, and production deployment. You will also lead and grow a small team of high-performing machine learning engineers and applied research scientists.
This is not a role for someone who wants to operate exclusively through management. The strongest candidates will have built AI/ML products themselves, can provide technical direction in an open-ended environment, and know how to translate customer problems into differentiated production systems.
Hands-On AI Leadership: Ability to set technical direction while contributing directly to architecture, model development, evaluation, experimentation, and production decisions.
Model Development: Eight or more years of industry experience building AI/ML products through model training, fine-tuning, post-training, or related applied machine learning methods.
Agentic Systems: Experience integrating large language models into production software, ideally involving agents, tool use, planning, adaptive workflows, or distributed systems.
Technical Foundation: Strong command of deep learning concepts, modern AI/ML frameworks, model evaluation, and the tradeoffs involved in deploying reliable production systems.
Team Leadership: Experience leading, developing, and hiring strong machine learning engineers, applied researchers, or research engineers while maintaining a high technical bar.
Customer Orientation: Genuine interest in understanding customer problems and turning ambiguous enterprise needs into useful, reliable AI capabilities.
Research-to-Production Execution: Ability to distinguish promising research from production-ready technology and move new approaches from experimentation into deployed products.
Technical Judgment: Ability to navigate open-ended problems, make decisions with incomplete information, and adapt as models, tooling, and technical approaches evolve.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ability to work effectively with product, systems, security, and customer-facing teams, as well as external technical partners.
Academic Foundation: BS, MS, or PhD in computer science, artificial intelligence, applied mathematics, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
