About BAM AI

BAM AI builds AI billing agents that help independent physician

practices get paid by insurance companies for the services they perform.

We are hiring a hands-on Head of Engineering to turn a live,

multi-tenant healthcare platform and its proven workflow engines into a

reliable, secure, scalable product and engineering organization. You

will own architecture, delivery, technical quality, security,

operations, and the team that builds and runs the platform. You will

also operate as a product-minded builder: finding the real user problem,

shaping what should be built, and owning the experience through

production rather than waiting for completed requirements.

What you will own

- Own the technical strategy and architecture for BAM's multi-tenant revenue-cycle platform and autonomous workflow runtimes.

- Turn ambiguous customer and operational problems into product and technical decisions, then define the smallest safe product slice that proves value.

- Lead delivery across insurance verification, prior authorization, claim scrubbing, payment posting, denial resolution, appeals, and accounts receivable.

- Own the quality of BAM's user-facing product, including frontend architecture, interaction flows, state handling, accessibility, performance, instrumentation, and recovery from partial failure.

- Maintain tenant isolation, least-privilege access, PHI protection, audit integrity, secret management, and incident response.

- Build reliable integrations for EHRs, clearinghouses, payer APIs,

- Establish engineering standards for typed interfaces, migrations, tests, observability, CI/CD, reviews, deployment, rollback, and operational ownership.

- Make AI systems testable and bounded through structured outputs, evaluations, deterministic fallbacks, and human-review gates.

- Recruit, coach, and retain excellent engineers while remaining technically credible in code and production.

Our stack

Python, FastAPI, Pydantic, async SQLAlchemy, Alembic, Postgres with

CDK, SQS, EventBridge, Bedrock AgentCore, LangGraph, Neon, Playwright,

What we are looking for

- 8+ years building production software, including 3+ years leading engineers or engineering teams.

- Recent hands-on depth across code, data, distributed systems, architecture, and production debugging.

- Product engineering judgment: you can move from an incomplete user problem to a coherent product, technical approach, and measurable outcome without waiting for a daily task list.

- Strong backend and data experience with Python or a comparable typed server stack, relational databases, migrations, asynchronous work, queues, idempotency, retries, and failure recovery.

- Strong frontend experience with TypeScript, React, Next.js, or comparable technologies. You can assess interaction design, component architecture, state, performance, accessibility, observability, and frontend tests.

- Cloud systems experience on AWS or an equivalent platform, including infrastructure as code, CI/CD, secrets, metrics, logs, and alarms.

- Experience with multi-tenant security, authorization, least privilege, audit trails, and sensitive data.

- Experience integrating unreliable third-party systems through APIs,

- Practical experience shipping AI or agentic systems and using AI in the engineering lifecycle.

- A strong quality discipline across tests, type systems, migrations, security scanning, production verification, and incident learning.

Agentic engineering, not vibe coding

We use AI coding agents as engineering force multipliers. Agentic

engineering gives an AI system a defined outcome, relevant context,

architecture and security constraints, bounded tasks, tests or

evaluations, review gates, and production verification—with a human

owner accountable for the result. Vibe coding prompts until something

appears to work without a clear specification, system understanding,

tests, controls, or proof.

Preferred, not required

- Healthcare software, revenue cycle management, claims, clearinghouse, payer, or EHR integration experience.

- Experience with FastAPI, Pydantic, SQLAlchemy, Postgres RLS, Next.js, AWS CDK, SQS, Lambda, Bedrock, LangGraph, Playwright, Neon, or Amplify.

- Familiarity with HIPAA, BAAs, minimum-necessary access, PHI-safe observability, and regulated production change control.

- Experience turning a founder-built or prototype system into a scalable product without destroying its domain advantage.

This role is not a fit if

- You want to manage people and budgets without engaging deeply with architecture, code, or production.

- You expect Product or the CEO to convert every problem into complete requirements and tell you what to do each day.

- You are comfortable maintaining the status quo or measuring progress by tickets completed instead of customer and system outcomes.

- You trust AI-generated code because it compiles or looks plausible without understanding, testing, reviewing, and proving it.

The process includes a CEO pre-screen, a product and technical

interview, a culture and leadership interview, and a paid $500

assessment with a group discussion. No candidate will be asked to

BAM AI is an equal opportunity employer. We evaluate candidates based on

role-related experience, demonstrated results, judgment, and capability.
