Job description

Head Start Program Development AssistantThe Los Angeles County Office of Education is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the position of Head Start Program Development Assistant. This position provides analytic, technical, and program planning and development support to state or federal Head Start program functions; and provides ongoing communications and outreach to the Head Start community and families. This position requires full-time, on-site attendance.The well qualified candidate will possess the following knowledge:Applicable laws, codes, and regulations including California Education Code, federal and state program regulations and policies that apply to Head Start and state funded programsResearch methods and techniques including data collection, retention, organization and presentationConcepts, capabilities and applications of management systemsBasic principles of public relations and speakingFundamental aspects of layout and designCompetencies:Analyzing & Interpreting Data - Drawing meaning and conclusions from quantitative and/or qualitative dataCritical Thinking - Analytically and logically evaluating information, propositions, and claimsFact Finding - Obtaining facts and data pertaining to an issue or questionLegal & Regulatory Navigation - Understanding, interpreting, and ensuring compliance with laws and regulationsProfessional & Technical Expertise - Applying technical subject matter to the jobAttention to Detail - Focusing on the details of work content, work steps, and final work productsInnovation - Imagining and devising new and better ways of doing thingsProfessional Integrity & Ethics - Maintaining trust through honesty, adherence to principles, and personal accountabilitySelf-Management - Showing personal organization, self-discipline, and dependabilityInforming - Proactively obtaining and sharing informationWriting - Communicating effectively in writingCustomer Focus - Attending to the needs and expectation of customersRelationship Building - Establishing rapport and maintaining mutually productive relationshipsTeamwork - Collaborating with others to achieve shared goalsCultural Proficiency - Modeling communications and interactions that respect and include all individuals and their languages, abilities, religions and culturesRequired Education and Experience:Education: A bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, psychology, sociology, communications, or other fields closely related to the job requirements of this classification from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the commission on Teacher Credentialing.Experience: Two years of experience compiling and analyzing program data, and preparing reports and recommendations regarding one of the following areas for one or more social services agencies: program planning and development; community assessment; student program recruitment, enrollment and eligibility; community outreach; family or community engagement; or program compliance monitoring.Equivalency Provision: A master's degree in business administration, public administration, psychology, sociology, communications or other fields closely related to the job requirements of this classification from an institution of higher learning recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation may substitute for the required experience for up to one year. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the commission on Teacher Credentialing.Additional Requirements: Individuals must either possess a valid driver's license with access to private transportation, or demonstrate the ability to reliably travel between job sites using alternative means. This position requires full-time, on-site attendance.Selection Process: Candidates who meet the minimum requirements above will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of a multiple choice exam, performance exam, and technical interview.
