Health Education NurseThe Health Education Nurse assists with health screenings, community educational programs, health displays, administration of influenza vaccines, and clerical or other office duties as assigned.Essential duties and responsibilities include:Participate in health screenings at the hospital or in the communityAssist with setting up rooms for health fairs and screeningsUtilize screening equipment during events, which may include:Cardio Check machine for cholesterol and blood sugarsBlood glucose monitoring machines for blood sugarsBlood pressure cuff and stethoscope for blood pressuresBone density screenings for osteoporosisOmron for BMI indexingDerma scan for skin cancer detectionEducational Wheel (nutrition bingo)Be able to perform fit testing demo exercisesAble to work the Bone Density machine for Osteoporosis ScreeningsKeep screening equipment in clean and working order; clean machines after each screeningPerform controls and record results in screening notebookGive current and accurate health information to screening participants in a respectful and confidential mannerWork outside events, such as health fairs, by setting up displays and providing program information for businesses and the community about services offered by Chesapeake Regional Medical Center and the Lifestyle CenterInfluenza vaccines:Administer influenza vaccines during community and corporate clinic events (able to use an Epi Pen)Give current and accurate information in reference to the flu vaccine information sheet provided by the CDCComplete mandatory paperwork with accuracyAccurately compile all medical records and submit to supervisor at end of eventDemonstrate excellent infection control techniques by disposing of hazardous waste properly and cleaning all equipment after each useExplain the procedure indicated and review measures for vaccine injectionsUnderstands the need to report any needle stick injurySummary of other job duties and expectations:Adhere to the Service Excellence Standards and Expectations at Chesapeake Regional Medical CenterExhibit excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workersExhibit courteous communication skills and the ability to work with others, exercising good judgment in performance of job dutiesDemonstrate courtesy, compassion, and respect to others in adherence to the hospital's philosophy and policy for promoting positive work and customer environmentsWork as a team to continuously improve work qualityDemonstrate a commitment to flexible work schedules when necessary to ensure patient carePresent self in a positive manner as reflected by personal attire and etiquetteAttend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-servicesSupervisory responsibilities:Reports to: Health Education CoordinatorSupervises: NoneResponsibilities: N/AQualifications:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Must maintain CPR/AED certification.
