Health Services Associate

More than 8,500 diverse student learners are provided an exceptional education experience throughout the district's early learning center, six elementary schools (K- Grade 5) including both French and Spanish Immersion programs, two middle schools (Grades 6-8), a high school (9-12), and the Edina Virtual Pathway online program.

Edina Public Schools is accepting applications for a Health Services Associate. This position is responsible for observing students, reporting concerns, and performing delegated technical skills and administrative tasks. The Health Services Associate will be responsible for administering first aid, emergency, and episodic care according to the Health Services Standards of Care, district policies, and district procedures.

Position Summary: The Health Service Associate (HSA) assists the Licensed School Nurse with the observation of students, triage, reporting concerns, and performing delegated tasks in accordance with district and department policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Performs medication administration as prescribed, diabetic cares, catheterization, suctioning, first aid, lifting, gastric tube feedings, and other health tasks to support students under the direction and supervision of the Licensed School Nurse and in accordance with department policies and procedures.

Conducts vision and hearing screening evaluations.

Observes and assists students to ensure safety and well-being.

Performs diabetic monitoring, allergy, asthma (e.g., nebulizers, inhalers), seizure and anaphylactic treatments as directed by the Licensed School Nurse and/or Supervisor of Health Services.

Provides health notices to classroom teachers, parents, administrators, and the state as needed.

Partners with licensed school nurse in preparation for student field trips and other events.

Maintains the health services office including proper cleaning and the management and inventory of supplies for the building.

Documents and maintains health records to ensure compliance with state and local mandates.

Performs data entry to properly track illnesses, medications, immunizations, screenings, and health plans.

Tracks and documents student and staff communicable illnesses.

Documents all health service visits and emergencies.

Compiles and summarizes data for statistical reports.

Attends training sessions, conferences, seminars, and meetings as required.

Keeps abreast of changing developments, trends, and technologies.

Attends work regularly and punctually.

Essential Skills Required to Perform Position Duties:

Establishing and maintaining professional and courteous working relationships with staff, administrators, students, parents, and guardians.

Remaining calm in tense situations and utilizing professional judgment.

Applying general first aid and recognizing potential medical emergencies.

Ensuring the use of culturally competent practices to meet the needs of each and every student.

Following written and verbal instructions and perform delegated tasks from supervisors.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent. School health experience preferred and RN/LPN preferred. Valid first aid and CPR certification upon hire.

Compensation & Benefits: Salary Range: The wage for this position varies based on qualifications and experience. Candidates without a Registered Nurse License through the Minnesota Department of Nursing will earn between $22.17 and $31.99 per hour. Candidates with a Registered Nurse License through the Minnesota Board of Nursing will earn between $29.95 and $35.05 per hour. New hires will typically start at the entry-level rate within the applicable wage range, while candidates with relevant experience may be eligible for a starting rate of up to $27.06 per hour (non-RN) or $33.99 per hour (RN). Wage decisions will be made on a case-by-case basis, considering the individual's experience and the school district's budget. Benefits: Edina Public Schools provides eligible employees with a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, and vision insurance, as well as flexible spending plans. All employees participate in the state's largest pension program, the Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA). In addition, employees can participate in the 403(b) retirement program, with eligibility for a district match based on the terms and conditions outlined in the employee work agreement. Eligible employees also receive paid time off in accordance with the provisions outlined in the employee work agreement.
