We are seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator Immediatly to work in a busy environment. This position will primarily operate a mobile shearer to process and cut large pieces of scrap metal into manageable sizes for sorting, processing, and recycling. Willing to interview to see if position is a good fit!
Responsibilities:
Safely and efficiently operate a hydraulic scrap metal shearer.
Process, cut, and size various types of scrap metal.
Load, move, and position scrap materials for processing.
Inspect materials and identify items that may require special handling.
Perform daily equipment inspections and report any mechanical issues.
Maintain a clean and safe work area around operating equipment.
Follow all safety procedures and company guidelines.
Assist with general scrap-yard operations as needed.
Communicate with other yard employees to coordinate material movement and processing.
Qualifications
Previous experience operating a scrap shearer, excavator, material handler, or other heavy equipment preferred.
Ability to safely operate heavy machinery in an industrial environment.
Mechanical aptitude and ability to recognize basic equipment issues.
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Strong attention to safety and awareness of surroundings.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Previous scrap-yard or metal recycling experience is a plus.
Physical Requirements
Ability to work outdoors for extended periods.
Ability to climb in and out of heavy equipment.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical labor as needed.
Ability to work around loud machinery, dust, metal, and industrial equipment.
Work Environment
This is a fast-paced, industrial scrap-yard environment with heavy machinery, metal materials, noise, dust, and outdoor working conditions. Safety, equipment awareness, and proper operation of the shearer are critical to success in this position.
