Job description
Job TitleResponsibilities: Operates a variety of light and heavy vehicles and equipment in the maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, and other public works facilities. Operates street sweeper, dump trucks, garbage trucks, water trucks and other large vehicles for hauling and unloading equipment, materials and supplies. Operates construction equipment including backhoes, front-end loaders, bobtails and hydraulic excavators. Works with and assists line crews with digging ditches and trenches, placing and compacting backfill, and related activities. Operates compactors, concrete mixers, pneumatic hammers, air compressors and other power tools and equipment. Operates equipment with GPS, grade control systems, and computerized controls as assigned. Sets up and removes traffic control devices, including barricades and warning signs, and participates in clean-up operations at accident or spill scenes. Cleans and maintains drainage ditches; assists with weed and debris removal on sidewalks, curbs and intersections. Assists with basic street, sidewalk, guard rail, sign and pavement markings maintenance as assigned. Ensures safety rules and regulations are followed and uses appropriate personal protective equipment. Complies with OSHA requirements and maintains required documentation. Responds to citizen requests for information or complaints in a courteous and professional manner. Supports the relationship between the City of Nogales and the general public by demonstrating respectful and cooperative behavior. Maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information. Performs routine inspection and basic maintenance of assigned vehicles and equipment, reporting needed repairs. Maintains electronic inspection and maintenance records as required. Performs other duties as required or assigned.Education, Certification and RequirementsHigh school diploma or GED equivalent. Two Years of heavy equipment and large vehicle operation experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Valid Arizona State Class B Commercial Driver's License.Preferred QualificationsExperience in Heavy Equipment including backhoes, bobtails, front-end loaders, and hydraulic excavators. OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour safety certification. Experience with GPS and grade control systems. Completion of Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) from an FMCSA-approved training provider.Salary/ClassificationFull-time position; FLSA non-exempt; Salary Range of 48 plus benefits as outlined in the City's Personnel Manual.
