Job description

Heavy Equipment OperatorResponsible for operating and maintaining various heavy equipment, including but not limited to trench excavators, backhoes, and loaders in a safe expeditious manner in accordance with OSHA safe practices.ResponsibilitiesOperate a variety of heavy equipment for underground utility projects.Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects.Locate underground services, such as pipes or wires, prior to beginning work.Understand proper backfill requirements.Perform safe and clean trench excavation and backfill.Set and pull shield shoring and trench boxes in accordance with OSHA safe practices.Safely change buckets and attachments in a timely mannerAble to calculate and set proper grades and elevations.Monitor operations to ensure that health and safety standards are met.Prepare and maintain equipment for safe daily operations (i.e. fuel, grease, etc.)Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.Adhere to B&F Code of ConductRequired Skills & AbilitiesHigh school diploma or equivalent3+ years' experience in wet or dry utility heavy equipment operator experienceExtensive knowledge and ability to install sewer, water, storm drain, and dry utility conduit.Experience in underground utilities or heavy civil construction.Understanding of construction safety and OSHA requirementsAbility to follow traffic laws, ordinances, and rules applicable to heavy equipment operation.Must be able to work safely outdoors in Arizona heat conditions and perform all job duties with no restrictions.Good listening and comprehension skills, follows instructions, takes responsibility for own actions.Establish and maintain effective work relationships.Able to work nights, weekends, and overtime as required.Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, reach, twist, climb, and lift 50 pounds.Ability to work outside.Reliable transportationAbility to understand Arizona's blue stake laws and colors coding.Work EnvironmentWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to:Moving mechanical partsPrecarious placesFumes or airborne particlesFrequent and/or sustained loud noises.Outside weather conditionsExtreme heat
