Job description
Highway Maintenance TechnicianThis is responsible, skilled work in the performance of maintenance and construction activities for the Rock County Public Works Department - Highway Division. Work involves the operation of large and/or complex equipment and, in addition, the ability to perform complex manual tasks which require extensive previous experience and specific training. 80% Troubleshoot, maintain and repair assigned roads. Repairs and maintains bridges, guardrails, culverts, drainage structures, pavements, etc. Repairs and maintains road surfaces using large trucks, bulldozers, cranes, skid steer and endloaders, oil distributors, jack hammers and air compressors, graders, and various other equipment. Controls traffic in emergency and normal maintenance activities by setting barricades, cones, and arrow boards and by using hand signals and flags in order to ensure the safety of highway workers and motorists, and to ensure that traffic moves with a minimum amount of congestion. 10% Perform routine maintenance on equipment and vehicles. Inspects equipment prior to use for safety and maintenance issues. Performs minor maintenance and repairs on equipment. Keeps equipment clean and in good working order. 5% Keep current on safety related issues. Become familiar with latest procedures. Attend all required safety related trainings. Report all accidents in a timely manner. 5% Keep current with all administrative procedures. Completely fill out and hand in time sheets on time. Fill out log book if one has been issued to you. Maintain accurate inventories of materials used in the performance of duties, including, but not limited to: repair parts; marking and signing accessories; materials such as gravel, limestone, asphalt, etc. 10% Performs other duties as assigned.
