nThe Home Office Underwriting Manager position will report to the Regional Senior Managing Director. You will be responsible for assisting with the overall integrity of the division’s contract surety portfolio, along with the improvement of their surety underwriting processes. You will be responsible for assisting the Regional Senior Managing Director with all home office matters surrounding underwriting analysis and reviews, portfolio management and reporting. As one of the lead Home Office personnel in Contract Surety, you will also have a channeled interest in assisting the regional field teams with marketing our underwriting abilities to our partners across the country.
nHome Office Bond Underwriting Manager:
nnnRepresents Bond by demonstrating superior underwriting expertise, high-level decision-making skills, and comprehensive business knowledge.
n
nnSupports Regional Office sales and service objectives.
n
nnMonitors and assesses the implementation of underwriting guidelines, sales objectives, service standards and operational efficiencies.
n
nnRigorously analyzes underwriting information and assesses most complex risk within the framework of company standards.
n
nnHas a high degree of autonomous decision-making authority and manages a portfolio of business
n
nnHelps set territory strategies for offices in the territory.
n
nnServes as referral underwriter for regional offices.
n
nnAssists Region Office underwriters and managers in creating solutions for customers.
n
nnOption to Co-travel in the territory to understand the customer needs and attend meetings with clients.
n
nnNegotiates win/win solutions.
n
nnAnalyzes the portfolio of business in the territory.
n
n nShould possess the following attributes:
nnnDeep technical knowledge of Surety products and those processes, laws, regulations, terminology and principles related to surety underwriting.
n
nnThe interest and the capabilities to serve as a resource on complex underwriting issues for the greater Contract Surety team.
n
nnAn appreciation and desire to lead special projects and other duties as needed to improve the overall Contract Surety product at Hartford.
n
nnA shown ability to balance the needs of multiple stakeholders when making underwriting decisions- including claims, operations, compliance, and finance.
n
nnA team spirit and desire to work collaboratively.
n
nnA financial mindset to help make the best decisions.
n

n nQualifications:
nnnBachelor’s Degree strongly preferred
n
nn8+ years of Contract Surety underwriting experience preferred.
n
nnDemonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with all internal and external business partners
n
nnExcellent communication, written, interpersonal and presentation skills
n
nnAn ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations and propose solutions
n
nnHigh energy self-starter who is resilient
n
nnDemonstration of solid time, organizational, and desk management skills

n nThe position title level will be determined after careful review of the selected candidate’s qualifications
nLocation:
nThis role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement. Candidates who live near one of our office locations will have expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday). Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise.
nCompensation
nThe listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
n$112,800 - $205,200
nThe posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.
