This position is for employees hired into the Law Department Honor Attorney Program. This 36-month development program allows for entry-level attorneys to gain experience by handling a variety of legal matters independently. The honors attorney will receive mentoring and supervision throughout the development process. Participants in this program receive six-month performance reviews and potential salary adjustments. After successful completion of the program, the employee will be assigned to an authorized attorney position in the Law Department. The honor attorney position is not authorized on a permanent basis.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conducts legal research and prepares written material for use in representing the Postal Service and advising postal management officials.
2. Participates in conferences necessary to representing or advising Postal Service officials.
3. Directly advises postal management officials or represents the Postal Service in legal matters involving outside parties or administrative litigation.
4. Prepares replies to inquiries from Congress, government agencies, and the public. xxzpjkt
5. Prepares opinions, memoranda, decisions, regulations, testimonies, or formal filings in proceedings in which the Postal Service is a party.
