Hospitalization Safety Officer – UnarmedRank Level: 1–3 | Pay: $23–$27/hr Assignment Location: Northside Gwinnett Hospital Classification: Non-Exempt | Full-Time & Part-Time | Civilian Public Safety Support RoleRole Purpose and MissionThe Hospitalization Safety Officer is a civilian, unarmed safety professional assigned to provide continuous custody observation, safety oversight, and environmental control for incarcerated individuals receiving medical treatment at Northside Gwinnett Hospital.This role ensures the safety of hospital staff, patients, visitors, and the public while preserving custody integrity and dignity for individuals under medical care. Officers operate in a high-visibility, high-responsibility environment requiring situational awareness, emotional intelligence, discretion, and strict adherence to policy. This position is not sworn and carries no law enforcement authority.Scope of AuthorityServe as civilian safety personnel with limited custodial responsibilityResponsibilities strictly include observation, reporting, access control, and safety presenceNo arrests, investigations, or discretionary enforcement actionsEscalate incidents to law enforcement or supervisory personnel as requiredCore Duties and ResponsibilitiesCustody Observation and Inmate SafetyMaintain uninterrupted visual observation of assigned inmate patientsEnsure custody integrity during medical treatment, hospital movement, and room transitionsImmediately report custody concerns, safety risks, or compliance issuesHospital Safety and Environmental ControlControl access to inmate treatment rooms and surrounding areasPrevent unauthorized contact or interference with inmate patientsMaintain awareness of hospital activity and visitor movementProfessional Conduct and ComplianceUphold the highest standards of professionalism, neutrality, and ethical conductMaintain strict confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and agency policyDemonstrate emotional regulation, restraint, and sound judgment under pressureMaintain professional appearance, grooming, posture, and demeanorComply fully with all Valor Protection Safety Agency policies and proceduresShift Coverage and Operational ReadinessMaintain availability for rotating shifts including:11 PM – 7 AM7 AM – 3 PM3 PM – 11 PMRequired QualificationsMinimum age of 21 yearsAt least 2 years' experience in security, corrections, hospital security, military, or high-accountability safety rolesValid government-issued ID and Social Security card or birth certificateAbility to pass local, state, and national background investigationsSuccessful completion of fingerprinting and drug screeningMedical physical clearance confirming fitness for dutyAbility to complete required pre-service and ongoing trainingStrong verbal communication skills and emotional intelligenceAbility to remain alert and attentive for extended periodsPreferred ExperienceCorrections or detention experienceHospital or healthcare security experienceMilitary or law enforcement backgroundCrisis intervention or de-escalation trainingProven reliability and professionalismPhysical and Cognitive RequirementsAbility to sit or stand for prolonged periodsMaintain constant visual observationRespond quickly to emergency situationsHigh tolerance for stress and medical trauma exposureMaintain composure during periods of inactivityPerformance Standards and AccountabilityStrict adherence to all policies and proceduresFull compliance with documentation and reporting standardsReporting StructureReports directly to Valor Protection Safety SupervisorEqual Employment Opportunity StatementValor Protection Safety Agency is an equal opportunity employer.
