Job description
Indiana University Health, the largest and most comprehensive healthcare system in Indiana, is seeking a Hospitalist for float position to include primarily IU Health Methodist and University Hospitals with limited secondary coverage at IU North, Saxony and West hospitals. The successful candidate will practice in a team-oriented, supportive, and collaborative environment. We are seeking physicians looking for a 1-2 year transition to fellowship specialty and/or hospitalist with desire for new environments. This position offers all the benefits and excitement of travel with the advantage of being local and close to family/friends without significant time away from home.
The position is dually employed by IU Health Physicians and IU School of Medicine with a comprehensive benefit package.
Position Details:
Schedule options include: 7 on/7 off (7a-7p) or traditional schedule of M-F, no weekends, no holidays and 30 days PTO
Primarily practice at the IU Health Adult Academic Center including Methodist and University Hospitals. Secondary locations as needed at IU Health North, West, and Saxony where travel is required with mileage reimbursement from primary site.
Key responsibilities include: Admit to inpatient or appropriate level of care; perform or supervise the performance of patient care services to include history and physical examination, diagnosis, daily patient evaluation, daily progress notes, discharge evaluation, discharge summary, manage transfer calls from outside hospitals and referrals and medically manage for treatment of adolescent and adult patients.
Support hospitalist APP's as needed for questions and unstable patients.
No procedures are required, open and closed ICU depending on the hospital
Dual-employment with IUSM, opportunity to experience academic and community (suburb) environments.
Faculty position working with and teaching students and Internal Medicine residents
Medical co-management with multiple surgical services including PVS, CVS, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, Urology, etc.
Qualifications
(family medicine ineligible due to IUSM Internal Medicine residency program affiliation and training)
Residency training in Internal Medicine
Must be Board Eligible or Board Certified in Internal Medicine
Physician licensed in Indiana or eligible for medical licensure in Indiana

IU Health Methodist Hospital is a regional healthcare leader through its commitment to excellence, accessibility and preeminence. Part of the IU Health Adult Academic Health Center, it is currently ranked by U.S. News & World Report as the top hospital in the state of Indiana, with 13 procedures/conditions rated as high performing.
With 1,000 beds, IU Health Methodist Hospital is a large tertiary referral center with over 130 ICU beds. It serves as the largest trauma center in Indianapolis, as well as a highly subspecialized center for cardiovascular surgery, thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, lung transplantation, and neurocritical care.
IU Health is building a new downtown hospital and campus, which will consolidate operations of the adjacent IU Health Methodist and University Hospitals. Construction for the new hospital is well underway and set to open in late 2027. It will feature three 16-story towers with 864 beds. IU School of Medicine is also constructing a medical education and research building directly east of the new hospital.
