Housing Monitor

About This Opportunity
Schedule/Hours: Part-time
This position offers second shift (approximately 4 pm – midnight) opportunities, including weekends. In addition, opportunities for third shift (midnight to 8:30 am) may have limited availability.
This position is responsible for:
The housing monitor is the key hospitality representative, who will uphold and enforce the rules – thereby ensuring a safe, structured, predictable environment for guests and staff. The housing monitor will be supported by the shelter manager and other staff in this role. The housing monitor checks guests in and out throughout the day, dispenses medical boxes and keeps medication logs, answers the phones, oversees the use of the publicly available toilets, and participates in the processing of new guests. The monitor can expect to assist or lead in provision of snacks, meals, etc. The overnight monitor will engage in some cleaning activities, light preparations for breakfast, as well as ensuring curfews, lights out and bed assignments are being followed. The capacity to engage well with individuals experiencing distress, crisis and conflict is essential, as is the ability to make wise decisions quickly.
Key Responsibilities:
Checks guests in and out each time they enter / exit the main entry of the shelter building.
Completes required paperwork; inputs data into the computer in order to maintain computer records and generate client lists, including but not limited to HMIS;
Turns away clients who are barred, intoxicated or otherwise ineligible for shelter accommodations; attempts to refer ineligible clients to other shelters for accommodations.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to respond to emergencies quickly and calmly while maintaining control and initiating the proper corrective action. Ability to perform combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis. Distance of travel is usually within the same building. Limited physical effort is required for walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time. Work is performed in a housing shelter where physical discomforts may be associated with temperature variations, odors, violence, noise, disease, and/or dust under mildly unsafe and uncomfortable conditions.

What We Are Looking For In You
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or G.E.D.
AND
One year experience performing security or social service work preferred, OR
Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
