Job description
AMX Companies is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented HR Director to lead general HR administration for the organization while managing key benefits, compliance, and systems functions. Based in our Atlanta office, this role serves as a central point of contact for HR operations across all business locations and partners closely with the Head of People to ensure consistent, compliant, and effective people practices company-wide.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on HR professional who is equally comfortable handling day-to-day administrative HR work and managing more technical responsibilities such as retirement plan audits, benefits renewals, and HRIS administration.
Key Responsibilities
General HR Administration
Serve as a primary HR point of contact for employees and managers across all business locations
Manage day-to-day HR administrative functions, including employee records, documentation, and correspondence
Support onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, Georgia state, and local employment regulations
Draft and maintain HR policies, procedures, and documentation
Retirement & Benefits Management
Oversee the annual 401(k) audit process, serving as the primary internal liaison with auditors and third-party administrators
Provide ongoing plan support, including compliance monitoring, testing coordination, and issue resolution
Manage annual benefits renewals, including coordinating with brokers/carriers, evaluating plan options, and communicating changes to employees
Ensure benefits programs remain compliant with ERISA, ACA, and other applicable regulations
HRIS & Systems Management
Own and manage the HRIS platform, including data integrity, system configuration, and user access
Generate reports and analytics from the HRIS to support business and compliance needs
Troubleshoot system issues and coordinate with vendors/IT as needed
Identify opportunities to improve HR processes through system optimization
Data & Compliance
Oversee collection, organization, and reporting of HR data across all locations
Manage unemployment claims processes, including documentation, hearings support, and employer responses
Maintain accurate records to support audits, compliance reviews, and reporting requirements (e.g., EEO-1, ACA reporting)
Ensure consistent HR practices and data accuracy across multiple business locations
Employee Relations & Conflict Resolution
Serve as a trusted, neutral resource for employees and managers navigating workplace conflicts or concerns
Investigate employee relations issues (e.g., complaints, disputes, policy violations) in a fair, timely, and confidential manner
Guide managers on appropriate conflict resolution and progressive discipline approaches
Thoroughly document all employee relations matters, investigations, and outcomes to ensure a clear, defensible record
Escalate complex or high-risk issues to the Head of People and/or legal counsel as needed
Serve as a liaison between the corporate HR function and managers/employees at all business locations
Communicate policy updates, benefits changes, and HR initiatives clearly and consistently company-wide
Partner with the Head of People on strategic HR initiatives and reporting
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience)
5+ years of progressive HR experience, including benefits administration and HRIS management
Experience supporting or managing a 401(k) audit and retirement plan compliance
Strong knowledge of employment law, benefits regulations (ERISA, ACA), and unemployment claims processes
Proficiency with HRIS platforms (e.g., ADP, Paylocity, UKG, or similar)
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work across multiple locations and business units
High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
Preferred
PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification
Experience in a multi-location or multi-site organization
Advanced Excel/data reporting skills
