Job description
We are seeking a high-performing Service Retrofit Lead to oversee and drive field execution across multiple commercial retrofit teams and simultaneous project sites throughout Miami-Dade and south Broward County.
This leadership role requires a strong technical background in commercial HVAC and heavy central plant operations to bridge the gap between engineering, sales, and field technicians. Responsible for field labor management, site logistics, safety, quality control, and ensuring mechanical projects—ranging from standard DX replacements to major central plant overhauls—are completed safely, profitably, and on schedule.
Core Project Scope Managed
Central Plant Heavy Mechanical: Oversee complex retrofits including chiller compressor overhauls and replacements, full cooling tower rebuilds/refurbishments, and primary/secondary hydronic pump change-outs.
Applied & Commercial DX Systems: Manage field execution for packaged rooftop unit (RTU) crane lifts, commercial split system change-outs, air handling unit (AHU) retrofits, and DOAS replacements.
Piping & Rigging: Direct field rigging operations, crane logistics, pipefitting/brazing teams, and structural steel modifications within active and space-constrained mechanical rooms.
Key Responsibilities
Multi-Team Field Leadership & Resource Allocation
Directly supervise, schedule, and assist in dispatching multiple field retrofit crews, and sub-contractors across various job sites in Miami-Dade County.
Conduct daily jobsite visits to audit work quality, evaluate progress against project schedules, enforce safety compliance, and eliminate field execution roadblocks.
Mentor and train technicians on complex mechanical procedures, rigging safety, refrigerant recovery, and electrical troubleshooting.
Project Execution & Technical Management
Review project scopes, submittals, and mechanical drawings prior to kickoff to identify site constraints, structural access issues, and material requirements.
Manage jobsite logistics in occupied, high-stakes environments—such as healthcare facilities, high-rise condominiums, and commercial office towers—ensuring minimal disruption to building operations.
Cost Control, Logistics & Communication
Track job hours, equipment rentals, material purchases, and change order requests to maintain project margins and profitability.
Serve as the primary field point of contact for account managers, general contractors, facility directors, and equipment vendors.
Oversee site quality assurance, equipment startup protocols, pre-functional checklists, and owner turnover documentation.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience: Minimum 7–10+ years in commercial HVAC, with at least 3+ years in a field leadership, foreman, or retrofit lead capacity.
Technical Expertise: Deep hands-on knowledge of centrifugal/screw/scroll chillers, cooling towers, hydronic piping systems, heavy rigging, and commercial electrical/controls interfaces.
Certifications: Active EPA Universal Certification required. OSHA 10 certification preferred. Rigging/Signalperson certification is a strong plus.
Logistics & Communication: Valid Florida Driver's License with a clean record. Strong leadership abilities, bilingual (English/Spanish) communication skills highly preferred
