Occupational Therapist

The InterMountain ESD (IMESD) provides a wide range of services across seven counties in Eastern Oregon. Our Occupational Therapists are typically assigned to several Districts and are responsible for supporting school teams by evaluating children to identify special education eligibility and develop treatment plans that support educational goals on the student's IEP. These goals are designed to be realistic and functional in supporting students' access to education.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be proficient in each responsibility and essential function of the position. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Individual will hold a valid driver's license and have reliable, insured transportation. If selected for the position, individual will complete a pre-employment background check.

Currently hold or be eligible for licensure in the State of Oregon.

Current First Aid/CPR training required

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

Provide evaluation and direct intervention and instruction with identified children; participate in the preparation, implementation, and consultation of Individual Education Plan (IEP)/Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) for children experiencing disabilities.

Use a variety of evaluation and treatment techniques and provide consultation and instruction to students, families and staff for services not requiring direct intervention by an occupational therapist.

Evaluate the effectiveness of occupational therapy intervention procedures and report findings to appropriate personnel.

Use knowledge of individual child to best assess effective means of motivation and reward.

Provide sufficient training to all supportive personnel so they will be able to implement those portions of the treatment plan assigned to them.

Administers assessments at the request of IFSP team members as appropriate.

Supervise OT assistants and aides as per BOE requirements.

Provide supervision, direction, and evaluation of occupational therapy practicum student when applicable and as per College/University affiliation agreement requirements.

Assist with and/or initiate dissemination of information concerning occupational therapy services to the community, individuals and agencies.

Be attentive to the operational procedures at each school and follow school guidelines regarding administrative notification of program development and training.

Promote and participate in the ongoing improvement of the PT/OT Motor Team through the collaborative development and implementation of innovative methods of evaluation, treatment, record keeping, and case coordination.

Assist Program Director in developing program goals that are supportive of the goals established by the Special Education Department of IMESD.

Perform other reasonable duties that from time to time may be assigned to meet the usual and unusual demands placed on the organization.

Attends staff meetings and trainings as directed.

Follows IMESD procedures, especially as outlined in the Staff Handbook.

Completes all required paperwork within prescribed timelines that includes documentation of services provided and child progress toward goals.

Read and/or compose therapy reports, clinical notes, or communications to and from other professional team members.

Provide child/family with education regarding role of occupational therapy and needed home exercise programs with clear instructions, adapted to their cognitive levels and communication needs.

Maintain knowledge of current methods of treatment and equipment as necessary.

Other Duties:

Complete required annual trainings assigned by IMESD.

Fulfill duties for Mandatory Reporting of suspected child abuse or neglect.

This position may involve travel throughout the IMESD service area, which requires employee to hold a valid driver's license, have reliable transportation and insurance.

Working Conditions:

This position involves working at IMESD campuses and/or school districts within the IMESD service area.

This position is a full time, 190 day, twelve month position. The typical workweek is M-F, 8 hours a day. There will be occasional prolonged and/or irregular hours.

Employee could be exposed to blood or other potentially infectious materials or illnesses during the course of duties.

Employee may be exposed to inappropriate student behavior such as hitting, kicking, biting, yelling, cussing and verbal threats

Any changes in contract days will be stipulated in each individual contract. Salary and benefits are established through a negotiated agreement between the IMESD Employee Group and the IMESD Board of Directors.

Employee schedule and assignment to be established by Director and/or Assistant Superintendent.
