nJob Summary
nThe Infusion Nurse must be knowledgeable of standard oncology care practices. The Infusion Nurse advocates for patient safety and protocol integrity, adheres to nursing standards, and communicates effectively to ensure effective conduct of clinical trials and quality patient care.
nEssential Duties and Responsibilities
nEssential and other important responsibilities and duties may include but are not limited to the following:
nOncology Care Practices
nnnDemonstrates knowledge of age specific differences in the patient population including physiological and developmental differences unique to each group.
n
nnAssess and monitors therapy of patients using appropriate technical skills under the direction and supervision of a physician.
n
nnAssists physician with exams and procedures.
n
nnMaintains efficient and appropriate patient ??low.
n
nnDemonstrates knowledge of reimbursement procedures and charge capture.
n
nnPerforms venipuncture, accesses implanted ports and maintains central venous access devices and alternate delivering systems.
n
nnDocuments all elements of care.
n
nnCommunicates all pertinent information and any interventions to the physician or mid-level provider.
n
nnServes as a resource person to the medical assistants and LPNs.
n
nnTriages patient/family phone calls as needed and documents relevant information in the patient's chart.
n
nnAssesses patient/family needs and provides teaching.
n
nnDemonstrates awareness of community resources available to patients and assists with referrals if necessary.
n
nnFollows OSHA guidelines when handling cytotoxic agents, biohazardous waste and any other material potentially infected with a blood borne pathogen.
n
nnMaintains current knowledge of oncology nursing by participating in ongoing educational opportunities.
n
nnParticipates in professional development activities and maintain professional affiliations.
n
nnMaintains patient confidentiality.
n
nnServes as mentor/preceptor and provides day to day guidance to less experienced nurses.
n
n nOncology Clinical Trial Practices
nnnConfirms informed consent is documented prior to performing any study specific tasks.
n
nnIdentifies patients who require increased nursing assessment and management in addition to the clinical trial requirements and collaborate with other members of the healthcare team to ensure patient safety.
n
nnProvides patient education regarding required study procedures.
n
nnEducates and evaluates patient's adherence to and documentation of self-administered protocol agents, diaries, and return of such agents.
n
nnCollaborates with the investigator to determine if any treatment schedule or drug dose modification is necessary and communicates findings to the study team and other care providers.
n
nnEnsures appropriate communication between research and clinical staff related to patient-specific care needs. This may include telephone contact.
n
nnEnsures evidence-based symptom management as permitted by the protocol.
n
nnAdministers investigational compounds and/or chemotherapy/biotherapy to patients according to the protocol and applicable regulations.
n
nnPerforms study-required procedures such as routine lab collection, study-specific sample collection, vital signs, and ECGs, according to the protocol-defined timeline.
n
nnRecords all study procedures performed including, but not limited to, vital signs, ECGs, blood draws, infusions, and infusion reactions. This may include collecting and documenting current medication lists.
n
n nRequired Education and Experience
nnnCurrent BLS and ACLS or obtained within 90 days of employment
n
nnCurrent Registered Nursing License in the state the role is based in for RNs
n
nnOCN preferred.
n
nnIV and venous access device management skills
n
nnChemotherapy/Biotherapy administration experience
n

nThe potential base pay range for this role, when annualized, is $62,700.00 - $157,100.00. The actual base pay offered may vary based on a number of factors including job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, education, and experience; location; and/or schedule (full or part-time). Dependent on the position offered, incentive plans, bonuses, and/or other forms of compensation may be offered, in addition to a range of health and welfare and/or other benefits.
