nThis position is eligible for relocation depending on location.
nOversee and ensures a safe and efficient drug distribution system for patients, including clinical functions. Adheres to MercyOne's performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of MercyOne.
nSupervises the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy.
nnnSupervises the work of pharmacy supportive staff.

nnMonitorsthe day-to-day management and acquisition of medications and supplies.
n
nnFacilitates problemsolving ofpharmacy issues.
n
nnAssistswith department/divisionquality improvement activities.
n
nnProvides feedback on performance for all pharmacy personnel.
n
nnEnsuredaily and weekly computer maintenance functions performed (input as assigned).
n
nnOffers suggestions to improve services andviableoptions to resolve problems.
n
n nMonitors, reviews, interprets and dispenses medication orders in accordance with professional and legal standards and practices.
nnnInterprets medication and treatment orders in relation topatient’shealth status.
n
nnMaintains a computerized patient profile systemin order tomonitorpatients’ medication therapy for safety and effectiveness.
n
nnSchedules the administration of medications to provideoptimaleffect.
n
nnEvaluatesprospectivelypatient medication records for DUR and DUE.
n
nnCompounds/supervises the compounding of prescriptions and/or intravenousadmixtures..
n
nnTakesappropriate actionin response to computer-identified interactions.
n
nnDemonstrates an understanding of reimbursement guidelines and issues and incorporates them appropriately intomedication dispensingactivities.
n
nnEnsurescurrent billing of patient medications.
n
nnChecksall medication selections prior to dispensing topatient.
n
n nDevelops and implements clinical pharmacy activities using outcome based guidelines and MercyOne policy.
nnnMonitors patient response to medications and effectiveness of therapy.
n
nnEvaluates patient response to medications and effectiveness of therapy to include diagnostic/lab results.
n
nnCommunicates with and makes recommendations to physicians and other health team membersregardingpatient response, effectiveness of therapy and/or dosing levels andmonitorsasappropriate.
n
nnMonitors and/or doses medications andparticipatesin patient rounds as requested by physicians.
n
nnOperates the clinical pharmacy programs within the protocols and guidelines.
n
nnEstablishes andmaintainsa professional relationship with the patient.
n
nnIntervenes on behalf of the patient asappropriate toaccessappropriate carewithin the health system.
n
nnEnsures the patient has all the supplies, information,knowledgeand skills to carry out the drug therapy plan.
n
nnDemonstrates competency in performing required lab and diagnostic testing as outlined by clinic protocols
n
n nCompletes documentation.
nnnDocuments patient assessment, plan of care,interventionsand evaluation of plan accurately and legibly.
n
nnEnsures completion of all documentation required by regulatory agencies and corporate policy.
n
n nProvides clinical and drug information support to healthcare professionals and patients.
nnnProvides clinical medication information to medical and nursing staff.
n
nnProvides a comfortable and professional atmosphere forpatient.
n
nnCounselspatients and/or designated individuals onappropriate useand safety of prescribed medications.
n
nnResponds to drug information requests and providesaccuratedrug informationin the course ofdaily practice.
n
nnProvides effective patient education in multiple ways - verbal, written, pictorial, demonstration - based on the needs of the patient and/or caregiver to ensure proper use of medications.
n
nnPrepares and presents drug therapy-related educational programs/in-services to patients and other health care providers as needed.
n
nnCoordinates and manages student educational experiences.
n
n nMaintains medication and supplies inventory. (retail only)
nnnAssesses medication and supply inventory levels daily.
n
nnConsidercontractual agreements prior to ordering.
n
nnObtainsappropriate orderauthorization, i.e., P.O. number.
n
nnOrders medications and supplies fromappropriatesource(wholesaler vs. direct).
n
nnReceives and checks in medications and supplies.
n
nnCompletes documentation of inventory received.
n
nnResearchesdiscrepancies and processesreturnsand credits.
n
nnCodes andbillsinvoices toappropriate departments.
n
nnMaintains necessary purchasing documentation for business and regulatory needs.

n nInitiates and completes sales transactions. (retail only)
nnnIdentifiesmerchandise type and choosescorrectcash register key.

nnOperates cash register and MasterCard/ Visa machine.

nnReceives payment and returns correct change tocustomer.
n
nnAssures cashregister hasadequateamount of change.

nnPrints cash register and credit card reports,reconcileseach cash register daily and completes reconciliation form.

nnPrepares deposit and delivers todesignatedpointdaily.

n nCompletes pharmacy department paperwork.
nnnFiles paperwork on dispensed prescriptions.

nnDelivers/distributes pharmacy paperwork ormailsprescriptions.

nnReports medication errors toappropriate personnel.
n
nnAccurately completes pharmacy data collection reports.
n
nnAssistsinmaintainingan organized and clean pharmacy.
n
nnCollects, analyzes,interpretsand applies age-specific data.

nnPerforms tasks/procedures, uses equipment in anage appropriatemanner.

nnCommunicates and works with others in anage appropriatemanner.

nnnBachelor’sDegree: Graduate fromaccreditedcollege of pharmacy.PharmD preferred.
n
nnCurrent Iowa Pharmacist license.
n
