About the Role

Lead the design and coordination of instrumentation and control systems for cleanroom, fab, and advanced manufacturing facilities, producing complete I&C design packages from concept through construction and startup. Ensure cross-discipline coordination, code compliance, constructability, and support commissioning while mentoring junior staff.

Role

The Instrumentation and Controls Engineer will lead the design and coordination of instrumentation and control systems for semiconductor, cleanroom, fab, and advanced manufacturing facilities. The role delivers complete I&C design packages and supports projects from early planning through construction, commissioning, and turnover.

Key Responsibilities

Produce complete I&C design packages including control concepts, I/O lists, loop diagrams, schematics, panel layouts, and instrument indexes.

Develop and coordinate PLC and DCS control system architectures, hardware selection, network interfaces, and remote I/O integration.

Interpret and incorporate P&IDs, one-line diagrams, process flow diagrams, and equipment data into coordinated design deliverables.

Prepare control narratives, sequences of operation, cause-and-effect matrices, and point-by-point control descriptions.

Select and specify field instrumentation, analyzers, control valves, transmitters, switches, and accessories for high-tech manufacturing applications.

Coordinate with electrical, mechanical, process, structural, and architectural teams using AutoCAD, Revit, and model coordination tools (e.g., Navisworks) to resolve interferences.

Perform engineering calculations and layout reviews for raceway sizing, panel planning, signal separation, and equipment placement in compliance with codes and standards.

Support QA/QC, interdisciplinary model reviews, vendor submittal reviews, RFIs, shop drawing reviews, and construction administration.

Conduct site walks, field observations, and support change management during construction and startup.

Assist with startup, commissioning, functional testing reviews, punch lists, as-built documentation, and operational readiness for I&C systems.

Mentor junior staff, contribute to standards development, and promote consistent application of instrumentation and controls best practices.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering design technology, drafting, or a related technical field.

At least 15 years of instrumentation and controls design experience in industrial, semiconductor, advanced technology, or comparable process facility environments.

Demonstrated ability to independently develop a complete I&C design package with minimal oversight.

Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit; working familiarity with Navisworks for model coordination.

Strong working knowledge of PLC and DCS hardware architectures, control panel construction, and field instrumentation types.

Ability to read, interpret, and translate P&IDs, one-line diagrams, and process flow diagrams into coordinated deliverables.

Solid understanding of applicable electrical and fire codes, ISA instrumentation standards, and safe design practices for high-tech manufacturing.

Strong written and verbal communication skills and experience coordinating across multiple disciplines.

Proven ability to mentor junior staff and support quality-focused, complex project delivery.
