Director of Adult and Continuing EducationInterim Education Services Associate(New London Adult and Continuing Education – 10-month 1.0 FTE, unaffiliated position)Supervises: Facilitates and coordinates the Even Start Program teamPrimary FunctionTo assist in the implementation and the coordination of educational services for targeted students and their children as they participate in family literacy programs.Typical Duties and ResponsibilitiesWork as a team member with administration, the program facilitator, mandated program team leaders and the School Counselor.Responsible for coordination, cooperation, and collaboration between New London Adult Education, community agencies, and the State Department of Education in the provision of Family Literacy programs and services to targeted populations.Serves as liaison to the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood (OEC)In conjunction with administration staff, assures that the Even Start program serves the number of eligible children for which it is funded.Oversee New London Adult Education's Even Start program for NAEYC Accreditation of Early Learning Program.Ensure the Even Start program implements an intake, and goal development system which documents all student goals and literacy level assessments.Ensure the Even Start performance standards are well-known, supported and implemented by the team and program operations and activities adhere to legal guidelines and internal policies.Oversee all program data including student assessment results, learner updates and goal attainment for LACES, the CT State Department of Education (CSDE) data management system.Monitor data and retention efforts to increase student completion rates.Order, inventory, and ensure all materials in the Even Start classroom are in safe working order.Ongoing communication with students, instructors, administration, and the Even Start team, regarding placement, progress, and attendance questions or concerns.Refer students to and coordinate with support services including the School Counselor, Transition Associate, and community agencies, to develop a comprehensive goal setting system for students.Recommend and implement changes as needed in program design, administration procedures, etc. as they affect program performance.Prepare and submit for approval necessary programmatic reports, forms, etc. as required by Federal, State, and local regulations.Attend and participate in staff meetings and professional development.Provide both day and evening support to onsite and offsite locations.Perform other work-related duties as assigned.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in human services or in a related fieldExperience working with state and federal grantsProficient computer skills to include EXCEL, Outlook, and Microsoft TeamsDemonstrated ability to work professionally and discretely with extremely confidential informationExcellent customer service, communication (both written and verbal), and cross-group collaboration skillsAbility to use varying styles, approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding and acceptance of the role of culture in a diverse, multi-cultural workplaceWillingness to work flexible hours.Preferred Qualifications5 years of experience working with an Adult Education programExperience with the Literacy, Adult and Community Education System (LACES) program and Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System (CASAS)Substantive knowledge about the early childhood landscape in Connecticut and Even Start programmingPrevious experience administering a family literacy programBilingual, Spanish and EnglishPerformance EvaluationAnnually by the Adult and Continuing Education Director or designee Revised September 2026
