Job description
A great client at UHY is seeking an Interim Senior Controller . The ideal candidate will have deep nonprofit revenue recognition expertise under ASC 958, experience resolving complex accounting issues and supporting external audits, and a strong background in accounting documentation and internal controls.
The Interim Senior Controller role is primarily remote with occasional travel for important meetings.
Interim Senior Controller Responsibilities
Review and resolve complex accounting issues, including revenue recognition errors and prior-year restatements
Provide technical accounting guidance related to ASC 958, particularly grant and contribution revenue recognition
Review and strengthen balance sheet reconciliations, supporting schedules, accounting memos, and audit documentation
Partner with external auditors to address audit findings and ensure accounting conclusions are properly supported
Develop and document accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and standardized workpapers
Support internal audit activities and improve accounting processes in preparation for year-end reporting
Train and mentor accounting team members while strengthening the team's technical knowledge and capabilities
Leverage AI tools to support technical accounting research, agreement review, documentation, and process improvements
Interim Senior Controller Requirements
Extensive technical accounting experience, particularly with ASC 958 and nonprofit grant revenue recognition
Experience resolving complex accounting issues, correcting errors, and documenting accounting policies and procedures
Strong experience working with external auditors and preparing audit-ready financial documentation
Senior-level accounting leadership experience, ideally at the Senior Manager or Controller level, with public accounting experience preferred
Experience managing or leading a team of at least 6 employees
Experience with Sage Intacct and Salesforce preferred
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Proactive approach to managing deadlines, communicating progress, and coordinating with auditors and internal teams
Experience using AI tools in accounting workflows preferred
