nnGENERAL SUMMARY
n
nnThe CHKD NNP / NPA – Internal Traveler Program provides short-term 13-week assignments for eligible candidates to fill staffing needs. NNP / NPAs will be eligible for up to 3 renewable 13-week assignments across the CHKDHS.
n
n nUnder the direction of the Division of Neonatology, the Neonatal Physician Assistant (NPA) & Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) provides medical management of neonatal patients with a variety of diagnoses in the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) or other locations at CHKD or in contracted facilities where NICU and/or general nursery patients are cared for. Reports to department leadership.
nnnESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
n
nnDemonstrates excellence in practice characterized by quality patient care and participation in formal and informal patient, family and staff education.
n
nnPerforms a complete history and physical on new admissions and daily examinations and documents findings in medical record.
n
nnGenerates problem lists and differential diagnoses based on clinical findings.
n
nnCreates a comprehensive treatment plan including laboratory, diagnostic testing and medications as indicated.
n
nnEffectively utilizes healthcare resources and communicates with other members of the healthcare team to provide family support, and discharge planning.
n
nnPerforms other duties as assigned.

nnLICENSES AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS
n
nnRequired Licenses and/or Certifications
n
nnnNeonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP):
n n
nnnnRegistered Nursing License in the State of Virginia or Registered Nurse holding a valid Compact State license required at time of hire.
n n
nnnnCurrent Neonatal Nurse Practitioner certification from the National Certification Corporation (NCC) required at time of hire.
n n
nnnNeonatal Physician Assistant (NPA):
n n
nnnnCurrent state licensure to practice as a Physician Assistant in the Commonwealth of Virginia required at time of hire.
n n
nnnnCurrent National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification required at time of hire.
n n
nnnNeonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) & Neonatal Physician Assistant (NPA):
n n
nnnnCurrent prescriptive authority from the licensure Board of Medicine from the Commonwealth of Virginia and DEA registration from the Drug Enforcement Administration required at time of hire.
n n
nnnnCardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training required at time of hire or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
n n
nnnnNeonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) training required at time of hire or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.

nnMINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

nnnRequired Education and Experience
n n
nnnnNeonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP):
n n
nnnnnMaster’s degree in Neonatal Nursing Practitioner is required.
n n
nnnnnMust provide record of completed diploma (or equivalent) or academic transcript for those areas performing complexity testing.
n n
nnnnnThree or more years of nursing experience in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) required.
n n
nnnnnContinuous re-certification and/or maintenance of state licensure, certification, educational and application requirements is required during employment.
n n
nnnnNeonatal Physician Assistant (NPA):
n n
nnnnnMaster’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant Program required.
n n
nnnnnMust provide record of completed diploma (or equivalent) or academic transcript for those areas performing complexity testing.
n n
nnnnnContinuous re-certification and/or maintenance of state licensure, certification, educational and application requirements is required during employment.
n n
nnnPreferred Education and Experience
n n
nnnnNeonatal Physician Assistant (NPA):
n n
nnnnnOne or more years of experience as a Physician Assistant experience in a Neonatal setting preferred.
n n
nnnRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
n n
nnnnNeonatal Physician Assistant (NPA):
n n
nnnnnExecution of a Non-Competition, Confidentiality and Non-Solicitation Agreement is required.
n n
nnnNeonatal Physician Assistant (NPA) & Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP):
n n
nnnnAbility to travel locally between facilities is required.
n n
nnWORKING CONDITIONS
n
nnExpected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
