Job description
Job Title: Interoperability Engineer
Location Requirements: Remote
Job Type: Contract
Role Overview:
You will support and expand a nationwide healthcare integration footprint for a medical imaging organization. Your focus is on designing, building, testing, deploying, and maintaining interfaces that connect radiology and revenue-cycle systems. You will work on integrating systems using HL7 v2.x, REST APIs, web services, and SQL, ensuring reliable workflows across internal and external platforms. You will troubleshoot issues, create documentation, and collaborate with clinical, operational, vendor, and technical teams. You’ll also contribute to automation and scalable delivery by building components using JavaScript, Python, Java, SQL, and APIs, following best practices like CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code. Cloud experience is strongly preferred.
Responsibilities:
Build and support HL7 v2.x interfaces and integrations such as REST APIs, web services, and SQL-based data exchanges across RIS, PACS/VNA, dictation/reporting, and billing systems
Configure message transformations, routing logic, and workflow orchestration within an interface engine environment (Mirth Connect preferred)
Troubleshoot production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes
Monitor, alert, and recover from system issues
Create and maintain technical documentation, workflow diagrams, and support materials
Partner with clinical, operational, vendor, and technical teams during implementations, conversions, and go-lives
Contribute to automation by building integration components and tools using JavaScript, Python, Java, SQL, and RESTful APIs
Follow Git-based workflows, perform code reviews, and practice CI/CD
Maintain code-driven configurations including infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) where applicable
Work with cloud platforms, with strong preference for AWS, Azure, or GCP
Required Qualifications:
7+ years in healthcare integration, interoperability, or interface development
Hands-on HL7 v2.x interface engineering (ADT/ORM/ORU/SIU/DFT workflows)
Interface engine experience (Mirth Connect preferred; Rhapsody, Cloverleaf, Iguana, or InterSystems also acceptable)
Experience integrating healthcare applications across RIS, PACS/VNA, dictation/reporting, and revenue cycle systems
Strong troubleshooting and production support skills
Development experience with JavaScript, Python, Java, and SQL
Experience building or consuming REST APIs
Ability to work in fast-paced implementation environments with evolving requirements
