Job Description
*You will need to have a clear plan in place to relocate to New Orleans within one year.
Alpha IR Talent, a subsidiary of Alpha IR Group, has been retained by Benson Capital to identify an exceptional Investor Relations / Capital Formation professional who will help build and lead the firm’s investor relations and capital formation efforts across its growing investment platform.
Benson Capital is a New Orleans-based investment firm founded by Gayle M. Benson, owner of the New Orleans Saints and New Orleans Pelicans. The firm invests across multiple alternative investment strategies, including venture capital, real estate, and emerging managers, with a particular connection to New Orleans and the broader Gulf South. As Benson Capital continues to grow, the firm is focused on expanding its investor base, strengthening relationships with existing limited partners, and building the processes and infrastructure necessary to support the platform’s continued growth.
Working closely with the President & Senior Managing Director , this person will support and advance Benson Capital’s fundraising and investor relations activities across the platform. The role spans the full investor lifecycle, including identifying and prioritizing prospective investors, cultivating relationships, managing diligence and closing, and building lasting relationships with limited partners.
This is an opportunity to build a function rather than inherit one. The successful candidate will help establish a thoughtful investor relations strategy, a disciplined fundraising process, a consistent approach to investor communications, and the systems necessary to ensure that prospective and existing investor relationships are managed exceptionally well.
Key Responsibilities
Investor Relations and LP Engagement
Serve as a key point of contact for existing limited partners across Benson Capital’s investment strategies, building trusted, long-term relationships through responsive, thoughtful, and consistent engagement
Develop and maintain a proactive approach to LP coverage, ensuring investor relationships, conversations, commitments, and follow-ups are managed with a high degree of organization and attention to detail
Coordinate ongoing investor communications, fund and portfolio updates, meetings, events, and other opportunities to strengthen connectivity with existing LPs
Work closely with the investment, finance, legal, and senior leadership teams to ensure investor requests and communications are handled accurately, professionally, and efficiently
Represent Benson Capital in investor meetings, conferences, and other external-facing settings, with the level of independence and responsibility appropriate to the candidate’s experience
IR Strategy, Infrastructure and Communications
Help build and implement a thoughtful investor relations strategy and operating rhythm across Benson Capital’s growing investment platform
Create structure, process, and consistency around the management of prospective and existing investor relationships
Establish and maintain disciplined CRM and relationship-management practices that provide clear visibility into investor activity, engagement history, commitments, follow-ups, and next steps
Develop and maintain investor-facing materials, including presentations, fundraising materials, due diligence responses, fund communications, investor reporting, and other materials required throughout the investor lifecycle
Coordinate investor diligence and information requests cross-functionally to provide prospective and existing investors with a polished and responsive experience
Help ensure Benson Capital’s investment strategies and broader platform are communicated clearly and effectively to sophisticated investor audiences
Capital Formation
Support capital formation efforts across Benson Capital’s current and future investment strategies
Develop a thoughtful strategy for identifying, prioritizing, and engaging prospective investors rather than simply pursuing fundraising activity
Build and manage a disciplined pipeline of prospective LPs and maintain consistent follow-up throughout the cultivation process
Support prospective investor relationships from initial outreach and cultivation through diligence, closing, and transition into ongoing LP coverage
Depending on experience, independently manage prospective investor relationships and external meetings while partnering with senior leadership on larger or more strategic opportunities
Bring relevant existing investor relationships where applicable, while placing greater emphasis on the ability to build relationships and execute a repeatable capital formation strategy than on arriving with a large portable network
Travel as needed for investor meetings, conferences, relationship-building opportunities, and other events
Market Intelligence and Strategic Partnership
Stay current on private markets, alternative investments, fundraising trends, LP priorities, and the broader allocator landscape
Develop a strong understanding of Benson Capital’s investment strategies and communicate those strategies effectively to high-net-worth individuals, family offices, institutional investors, foundations, endowments, and other sophisticated allocators
Gather and synthesize feedback from prospective and existing investors to help inform investor targeting, messaging, positioning, and broader capital formation strategy
Apply strong analytical and strategic thinking to prioritize opportunities and determine where Benson Capital should invest its time and resources
Act as a collaborative partner to the investment, finance, legal, and senior leadership teams as Benson Capital continues to build and institutionalize its investor relations and capital formation capabilities
Candidate Profile
Benson Capital is intentionally open to candidates at different stages of their careers and does not expect any one candidate to possess every preferred qualification. The strongest candidates will combine exceptional organization, communication, judgment, intellectual curiosity, and relationship-building skills with a genuine interest in investing and private markets.
Core Qualifications
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage numerous relationships, conversations, commitments, and follow-ups simultaneously
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly and credibly with a wide variety of audiences
Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish credibility and build trusted relationships
Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, including an ability to prioritize the highest-value opportunities rather than simply pursue activity
Intellectual curiosity and a genuine interest in investing, private markets, and Benson Capital’s investment strategies
Excellent judgment, professionalism, and discretion, particularly when handling sensitive information and investor relationships
Self-directed and comfortable taking ownership within a small, entrepreneurial organization
Demonstrated ability to create structure, process, and consistency where it does not already exist
Collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively across investment, finance, legal, and senior leadership teams
Willingness to travel extensively for investor meetings, conferences, and other relationship-building opportunities
Preferred Experience
Experience in investor relations, capital formation, fundraising, client service, business development, investment management, private equity, venture capital, real estate, investment banking, wealth management, a family office, or another relevant field
Experience managing relationships with high-net-worth individuals, family offices, institutional investors, foundations, endowments, or other allocators
Experience managing a fundraising pipeline, CRM system, or other relationship-management process
Familiarity with private investment funds and the limited partner investment and diligence process
Experience creating investor presentations, fundraising materials, due diligence responses, fund communications, or investor reporting
Existing investor relationships that may be relevant to Benson Capital; however, a large portable network is not required, and the ability to build relationships and execute a repeatable strategy is more important
Experience independently representing an organization in external meetings
Knowledge of alternative investments and the ability to communicate investment strategies effectively to sophisticated audiences
Meaningful ties to New Orleans, Louisiana, or the broader Gulf South and/or a genuine interest in becoming part of the community for the long term
