Job description
MasTec Industrial Structural Steel Position
Responsible for raising, placing, and connecting girders, columns, and other structural-steel members to form completed structure or framework.
Essential job functions include promoting and complying with all company and safety policies and procedures, setting up hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members, fastening steel members to cable of hoist using chain, cable or rope, signaling worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel member, guiding member using tab line (rope) or ride on member in order to guide it into position, pulling, pushing or prying steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device, forcing members into final position using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks and hand tools, aligning holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member by drifting drift pins or handle of wrench through holes, verifying vertical and horizontal alignment of members, bolting aligned members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted or welded in place, cutting and welding steel members to make alterations, using oxyacetylene welding equipment, maintaining a professional appearance, and other duties as assigned by Foreman or Superintendent.
Education and work experience requirements include 4+ years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience, NCCER Certification/License (preferred), and minimum 4 years of experience in Ironworker role.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required include being knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations, actively participating in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors when on-site, setting a personal example of safe behavior, reading and interpreting documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals, adding and subtracting two-digit numbers, multiplying and dividing with 10's and 100's and ability to perform these operations using units weight measurement and volume, common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form, ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards, and other duties may be assigned.
Physical demands include working up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions, maintaining physical strength and stamina; using arms, hands, and legs fully; pushing, pulling, and frequently lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds; and stooping, kneeling, balancing, crouching, crawling, and climbing to perform job tasks. Stamina to perform this task repetitively and continuously for several hour intervals is required. This work environment may involve moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors and/or loud noises. Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to- safety toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.). Move in and around confined, cluttered, and uneven areas. May need to work at heights and must be able to abide by all safety and fall-protection requirements; must be able to wear and utilize all safety equipment required for work at heights. Evaluate information based on measurable standards; and see details in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes and shadings. Visualize objects in three dimensions from drawings. Keep good balance and work at heights. See well (either naturally or with correction). Hear well (either naturally or with correction). Coordinate the use of eyes, hands, and feet.
This position is a Full-Time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week. Schedule is subject to project requirements. Travel required up to 90%. Position requires presence directly on the Project Site location with intermittent travel to residence of record.
