Job description
Structural Steel Worker / IronworkerResponsible for assembling, erecting, and installing structural steel and precast components on industrial and commercial construction projects. This position involves heavy physical labor, precision alignment work, and strict adherence to safety standards while working in outdoor and high-risk environments.Key Responsibilities:Assemble hoisting equipment and rigging, including cables, pulleys, and hooks, to move heavy materials and equipmentHoist, position, and secure structural steel beams, columns, and girders using cranes or by signaling crane operatorsBolt structural steel members into position for permanent bolting, riveting, or welding according to blueprints and supervisor instructionsConnect and align structural steel components using bolts, drift pins, and alignment toolsErect structural steel and precast concrete components for buildings, bridges, towers, dams, storage tanks, fences, and guardrailsFasten steel members to hoist cables using chains, ropes, or rigging systemsPosition and adjust steel components using turnbuckles, crowbars, jacks, and hand toolsPull, push, or pry structural steel into position (up to 50 lbs)Guide materials into position using rope and rigging linesUnload and position prefabricated steel units for installation and hoistingVerify alignment using plumb bobs, laser equipment, and levelsCut, bend, weld, and fabricate steel components using torches, shears, and welding equipmentDismantle structures and equipment as requiredFabricate steel parts such as frames, beams, girders, and columns per blueprints or supervisor directionMaintain positive working relationships with crew members and other tradesPerform other duties as assignedPhysical Requirements:Must be able to frequently lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.Ability to work up to 10-hour shifts performing physically demanding laborFrequent bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and reachingAbility to work in confined, uneven, elevated, and outdoor environmentsWork Environment:Exposure to loud noise, dust, heavy equipment, and active construction operationsOutdoor work in varying weather and temperature conditionsWork performed near cranes, rigging operations, and elevated structuresSafety Requirements:Must comply with all safety standards and procedures at all timesRequired to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toed boots, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat, safety vest, and face mask as neededQualifications:Minimum of 4 years of structural steel or ironworking experience preferredAbility to read and interpret blueprints and construction drawingsExperience with rigging, hoisting, and structural steel erectionStrong teamwork and communication skillsAbility to work safely in high-risk construction environmentsMust have OSHA – 10PBI is an equal opportunity employer.
