Job description
Journeyman CarpenterPerforms a variety of skilled carpentry, cabinet making and related functions for the Peoria Unified School District (PUSD). Essential duties and responsibilities include receiving work orders and project assignments, evaluating and prioritizing work orders, identifying and ordering necessary tools, parts, equipment, materials and personnel, responding to calls for assistance related to wood, furniture, cabinetry and related concerns, assisting other trades as required, manufacturing and installing cabinetry and furniture, working with end users, measuring proposed areas, determining material and supply needs, preparing sketches and plans for user approval, estimating and receiving approval of project costs, ordering and picking up materials and supplies, maintaining inventory of materials and supplies, undertaking and completing renovation, installation or repairs of windows, doors, walls and related components in new construction or remodeling projects, milling, assembling, sanding, staining and finishing wood projects, preparing, assembling and gluing laminates for cabinets and counter tops, installing cabinets, bookshelves and countertops, maintaining PUSD buildings and campus facilities in assigned specialty areas, cleaning and maintaining hand and power tools and related equipment, cleaning and maintaining work areas, and performing other duties as assigned or required.Knowledge and skills include knowledge of applicable Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules, regulations, ordinances and codes and PUSD policies and procedures, knowledge of the principles of journey level carpentry, woodworking and cabinet making trade, knowledge of the principles of cost and material estimation, knowledge of the use and maintenance of power and hand tools and equipment, knowledge of the principles of installation, renovation and repair of windows, doors, walls, and related furniture and cabinetry, skill in reading, interpreting, understanding and applying relevant Federal, state, county and city statutes, rules regulations, ordinances and codes and PUSD policies and procedures, skill designing, estimating and completing cabinetry and carpentry projects, skill in utilizing a variety of hand and power tools and equipment for in-shop and on-site repairs, skill in maintaining records of materials, supplies and equipment, skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with co-workers, vendors, students, parents, the general public and others having business with the school district, and skill in operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of software applications.Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, and four (4) years of relevant, progressively responsible woodworking, cabinetry, construction or closely related work experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.Other requirements include possession or obtaining an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card, passing a background clearance check, possession and maintenance of a valid Arizona driver license, and obtaining and maintaining a Journeyman Cabinetry/Woodworking Certificate.
