Journey ElectricianREPORTS TO: Director of Facilities and MaintenanceWORK DAYS: 12 Months 240 Days - SALARY: Classified Salary Schedule 63-3 ($57,239 - $66,157)LOCATION: Maintenance Department - FLSA Status - EXEMPTJOB DESCRIPTION: The Journeyman Electrician is responsible for the installation of electrical frameworks, as well as the detection and correction of faults in existing electrical systems. Under general supervision, works as a team with other maintenance personnel to keep the school and central office facilities in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems/interruptions to the educational programs, especially comfortable classrooms, facilities, and safe equipment.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Ready to begin work at appointed hourMaintain a safe work environmentAdhere to all BCS policies, procedures and guidelines and report any violations of policies, procedures, or guidelines to immediate supervisorUse ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and lifts necessary to work on electrical systemsMaintain vehicle, tools, and equipment to ensure conditions and to be certain they are handled safelyWillingness to answer emergency and after hour calls if conditions warrantMaintain excellent customer service skills with coworkers and staff to promote efficiencyPerform other duties as assignedREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Active State of Alabama/City of Birmingham Journeyman Electrical Certificate.Ability to repair electrical issues by replacing or installing components, wiring, or devices as needed.A minimum of one year of experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting various types of fire alarm controls and sensing equipment.Ability to install and maintain energy conservation controls and lighting control equipment.Proficiency with National Electrical Code and local codes.A valid Alabama driver's license and clean driving record.Must pass a criminal background check and drug test.SUCH ALTERNATIVES TO THE ABOVE QUALIFICATIONS AS THE BOARD MAY REQUIRE.APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:Completed Application (HireTrue)Resume (uploaded to application)Three (3) returned References (HireTrue)*PLEASE ENSURE ALL INFORMATION IS CURRENT WITHIN A 6 MONTH PERIOD*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical strength, mobility, dexterity, stamina, and acuity are required to perform job responsibilities.REVISED: - June 2026
