Job description
Journeyman ElectricianThe Journeyman Electrician provides for all electrical work to be accomplished in-house by the facilities staff. This position performs day-to-day maintenance, project work, special events, and unscheduled maintenance as directed by the Associate Director Facilities Management. The position reviews plans and drawings for projects, validates requirements for daily work, projects, and assesses, troubleshoots equipment for the repair of all electrical equipment ranging from light fixtures through motors and generators.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSPlan, organize and layout all components of electrical work through the use of blue prints, specifications, interaction with consultants, contractors, architects, etc.Coordinate own and others work between maintenance, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and carpentry departments, administration, and outside vendors.Perform electrical work in medium voltage transmission and distribution systems and relays.Perform repair of electric motors, generators and controllers ranging from fractional horsepower to 500 horsepower.Repair, renovate and install electrical systems, components, fixtures, or electrical equipment in accordance with applicable NEC procedures and guidelines, manufacturer's specifications and department guidance.Make repairs to operations, maintenance and electronic equipment as necessary.Maintain files and documentation on building electrical systems as required.Complete all work orders assigned and provide appropriate documentation in relation to completion of work.Accomplish all work in accordance with MIOSHA/OSHA guidance, applicable City, County and State building codes and regulations.Repair electrical systems for hydraulic equipment, injections molding, welding equipment, HVAC systems, etc.Repair, maintain, and calibrate electrically operated controls and devices, such as communication devices, signaling devices, fire warning and security systems, including building access, ADA operators, electronic strikes, etc.Travel throughout all GRCC campuses and Satellite Learning Centers using personal and/or company vehicles.Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position.Performs other related duties as assigned.JOB SPECIFICATIONSHigh school degree or GED diploma requiredJourneyman electrical license requiredAdvancement towards masters license within two (2) yearsJourneyman electrician with two (2) years' experience preferredExperience in an academic setting preferredFive (5) years of experience as a master electrician preferredSkillsMust be able to use all electrical measuring equipment/metersMust be able to troubleshoot all types of electrical problemsMust be able to read and decipher blueprintsMust possess basic computer skillsMust have a valid Michigan driver licensePossess the ability to effectively communicate through written and oral communicationsPhysical DemandsBe able to lift 50 poundsBend, stoop and stand for extended periods of time in completing work assignmentsMust be able to use laddersMental DemandsAbility to work in a group or alone in a variety of settingsAbility to interface with a staff at various levelsProvide courteous customer service to students, faculty, staff and the general publicMust be accessible and available to meet overtime/emergency commitments to fulfill the college mission and objectivesWorking ConditionsGRCC will comply with any mandated health and safety requirements.
