Job description
Journeyman PipelayerThe Journeyman Pipelayer is responsible for the installation, inspection, and maintenance of ductile iron/mechanical joint and CPVC/PVC to prepare and install underground pipelines. This role requires a solid understanding of piping systems, proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and schematics, and the ability to ensure that all installations comply with safety regulations and industry standards.Duties/Responsibilities:Install, inspect, and maintain piping systems and fixtures in industrial settingsRead and interpret blueprints and schematics to ensure accurate installationCut pipes to required lengths, prepare them for welding and sealing, and assist in alignment during pipeline constructionConnect pipe pieces and seal joints using welding equipment, cement, or glueAssemble, install, and repair underground pipe fittings and valves of various materials and sizes for storm drains, sanitation sewers, or water mainsConduct pressure tests to identify and repair any leaks or weaknesses in the piping systemsEnsure all installations comply with safety regulations and industry standardsCoordinate with other team members to complete projects efficiently and on timeDocument all work performed and maintain accurate records of maintenance and inspectionsOther duties as assignedRequired Skills/Abilities:Ability to operate excavating equipment as well as shooting grade accurately is preferredProficient in reading blueprints and technical drawingsStrong hand-eye coordination and physical staminaStrong knowledge of pipe laying techniques and best practicesAbility to operate and maintain pipe-laying equipment and machinerySkilled in using hand and power tools common to the tradeEffective communication and teamwork skillsAttention to detail and commitment to quality workmanshipAbility to work in various environmental conditionsEducation/Experience:High school diploma or equivalentMinimum of 5 years of experience in pipeline installation and maintenanceExtensive underground knowledge and experience requiredProficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawingsKnowledge of safety protocols and regulations related to pipeline constructionExperience with various materials and tools used in pipeline workOSHA 10-hour certification preferredTravel Requirements:Anticipated 100% travel to project sites nationwideAbility to travel occasionally to attend meetings, trainings, and eventsPhysical Requirements:Ability to wear and utilize all required personal protective equipment (PPE)Ability to stand and walk for long periods of timeBend, kneel, and crouch for extended periodsAbility to perform repetitive movementsAbility to move in and around confined and cluttered spaces and uneven groundAbility to lift, carry, and move objects weighing up to and exceeding 50 poundsAdequate vision to perform all required tasksWork on ladders, scaffolding, and rooftopsComfortable with heights and able to climb and descend safelyStrong sense of balance and spatial awareness
