Phlebotomist – FloaterPosition: Phlebotomist – FloaterJob Description:Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.Greet customers appropriately; treat all customers in a courteous mannerCollects specimens according to established procedures. Properly explains in a clear but courteous manner the process of the venipuncture (blood drawing) and or other specimen collection (ex. urine or fecal) as requiredReduces patient anxiety by providing a calm environment for patients before, during and after the collection processDemonstrate technique/s using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.Fully understand all of the physicians' ordersMatches laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orderCheck all test requisitions or computer label against script to ensure 100% correctPackage specimens for transportStores specimen sample according to required temperature, places samples in appropriate collection container/ tube, accurately labels, follows different procedures as outlined by specific to protocol deemed necessary for transport to maintain integrity of the specimenDemonstrates proficiency of proper collection methods and proper processing of all specimensUnderstand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulationsAttend annual department trainingsAnswer telephone calls, read laboratory results to satisfy inquiriesOther duties as assignedQualifications:High school diploma or equivalent.Medical training: medical assistant or paramedic training preferred.Phlebotomy certification preferred.Three years phlebotomy experience required, inclusive of pediatric, geriatric and capillary collections.Minimum 2 years in a Patient Service Center environment preferred.Customer service in a retail or service environment preferred. Keyboard/data entry experience.Florida Background Screening Requirement: Certain Florida assignments require a Level 2 background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse before placement.
