Job description

Landscape Foreman OpportunityMadroño Landscape Design Studio is hiring an experienced foreman to lead landscape construction or maintenance crews throughout San Francisco and nearby Peninsula communities.We are open to candidates whose strongest background is in landscape construction, landscape maintenance, or a combination of both. Our most immediate need is for someone who can lead construction projects, but we also want to meet experienced maintenance leaders who know how to manage crews, routes, properties, and client expectations.This is a hands-on field leadership role. You will work alongside your crew, organize daily activities, maintain quality and safety standards, and keep projects or maintenance routes moving efficiently.Depending on your background and assigned crew, your responsibilities may include:Lead and organize a crew of approximately three to four employees.Assign daily work and make sure the crew understands priorities, specifications, and safety expectations.Work directly alongside crew members when needed.Read plans, review layouts, and sequence construction activities.Coordinate materials, deliveries, vendors, fabricators, and subcontractors.Track project progress and communicate field updates to company leadership.Maintain clean, organized, and professional job sites.Identify field conditions that may affect schedule, drainage, grading, access, or installation.Confirm work is completed according to plans, company standards, and applicable codes.Operate landscape tools and compact equipment safely.Train and support crew members as they develop new skills.Communicate respectfully with clients, coworkers, vendors, and project partners.Construction-focused responsibilities may include:Carpentry and fence constructionMasonry and concrete workGrading, excavation, and drainageIrrigation installationPaver and tile installationLow-voltage landscape lightingPlant, shrub, and tree installationCoordination with specialty fabricators and trade partnersJob-site preparation and final project cleanupMaintenance-focused responsibilities may include:Managing a scheduled route of residential or commercial propertiesPlanning multiple property visits throughout the dayDirecting mowing, pruning, planting, cleanup, and seasonal workMonitoring irrigation and general plant healthMaintaining consistent service standards across propertiesCommunicating site needs, client requests, and recommended follow-up workKeeping vehicles, tools, materials, and schedules organizedRequired qualifications:Experience leading crews in landscaping, landscape construction, hardscaping, exterior construction, grounds maintenance, or a related fieldAbility to organize field work and give clear direction to a small crewStrong working knowledge in at least one of the following areas:Landscape constructionHardscape installationLandscape maintenanceIrrigationCarpentryMasonryConcreteGrading or drainageAbility to perform hands-on outdoor work in changing weather and job-site conditionsAbility to lift, carry, bend, kneel, climb, and work on uneven terrain, with or without reasonable accommodationReliable transportation and the ability to report to job sites in the San Francisco areaProfessional communication and a respectful leadership styleAbility to maintain accurate time and project informationPreferred qualifications:Experience reading landscape plans or construction drawingsExperience with high-end residential projectsBobcat or compact-equipment operationExcavator experienceKnowledge of Bay Area plant materials and treesExperience managing landscape-maintenance routesSpanish-English bilingual abilityExperience working across both construction and maintenance teamsWhat we value:Leads calmly and treats people with respectTakes pride in quality workCan solve problems without creating unnecessary frictionCommunicates early when conditions, materials, or schedules changeHelps less-experienced employees improveUnderstands that clean, organized work is part of a well-run projectWants to build a long-term role with a stable local companyCompensation and benefits:Annual pay of $75,000–$85,000+, based on experienceOvertime pay when applicableBiweekly payrollCompany truck for foreman responsibilitiesAbility to take the company truck homeMedical, dental, and vision insurance401(k) with employer matchingPaid holidays, vacation, and sick leaveSafety, technical, and equipment trainingCompany-provided phone or tablet as neededAbout Madroño Landscape Design Studio:Madroño Landscape Design Studio designs, builds, and maintains residential and select commercial landscapes throughout San Francisco and the Peninsula.
