The estimated hourly starting base pay rate for this position is $22.25 per hour. This role is also eligible for S&C's annual short-term incentive bonus, subject to eligibility criteria.The Machinist – Basic is responsible for operating a variety of machines, including both CNC and manually-controlled equipment, to produce precision parts for S&C products. The Machinist interprets blueprints in order to determine part specifications and uses various machines to craft them. They also complete basic documentation and maintenance tasks to ensure processes run smoothly and move materials when needed.Key ResponsibilitiesOperate various manual and CNC machines to fabricate parts according to standard specifications.Set up machines with the appropriate materials needed to complete the job.Interpret blueprints, drawings, and other technical specifications to understand the requirements for basic parts and ensure accurate fabrication.Perform basic routine maintenance on machines and tools to ensure longevity and quality fabrication, including cleaning and reporting mechanical/electrical issues to department leaders.Utilize an overhead crane and other material handling equipment to safely position materials for machining.Complete the first-piece inspection of parts using various measurement tools, confirming that the pieces are the correct material, quality, and specifications before beginning the machining process.Maintain accurate records of fabrication activities, including tracking the progress of job orders and documenting corrective action needed for the machine, part, or process.Deburr metal parts using hand and/or power tools, ensuring materials are safe to handle and are in a state that's ready for further processing.Meet department targets and consistently adhere to quality and safety standards.Understand and comply with all applicable Company policies and rules.What you'll Need To Succeed:High School diploma/GED1+ year of demonstrated experience with the operation of manual and computer-controlled punching, cutting, forming machines, or press brakes.Ability to use hand tools and precision measuring instruments such as scales and calipers.Basic knowledge of machine controls and programs.1+ year of reading and interpreting blueprints.Ability to work independently and meet requirements of assigned materials requests.Good communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to articulate information efficiently and effectively to team members in a variety of production support departments.Basic computer skills with the ability to review and respond to requests via internal applications.Basic math skills with the ability to calculate quantities, weights, and measurements.Good interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to understand and complete requests given by team member inside and outside of the department. Ability and willingness to follow Health Safety & Environment procedures accurately, reporting concerns promptly to the safety action team.Preferred:1 year of machinist and manufacturing experience a plusRelevant Work ExperienceExperience with set-up and operation of computer-controlled punching, cutting, forming machines, or press brakesAdditional Functions:Work with departmental mentors to gain and apply feedback in pursuit of improved work quality and accuracy.Maintain regular and punctual attendance and adherence to policy.Communicate effectively and respectfully with others.Attend in-person or virtual meetings as requested or required.Other responsibilities as assigned.Maintain ongoing training requirements.Flexibility to work overtime when required and as scheduled by managementMajor Physical Demands:Standing: Most tasks are performed in a standing position with intermittent walking.Lifting: Frequent lifting of items ranging in weight from 5 lbs. to 50 lbs.Walking: Occasional walking moderate distancesCarrying: Frequent carrying of items ranging in weight from 5 lbs. to 25 lbs.Pushing: Occasional use of electric hand truck to move parts a moderate distance.Pulling: Occasional use of electric hand truck to move parts a moderate distance.Bending: Frequent bending and crouching required to perform a variety of tasks. ReachingReaching: Continuous full range of motion from above the shoulders to below the knees.Handling: Continuous handling of parts ranging in weight from 5 lbs. to 50 lbs., along with a variety of hand-tools.Other: Most tasks are performed in a standing position with intermittent walking.S&C Electric is committed to equal-opportunity employment.
