Job description
Our client, a pet insurance company in NYC, is looking for a Content Designer with CMS implementation experience for a full-time contract. This person will help shape and implement a scalable CMS that will serve as the foundation for how content is created, structured, governed, and ultimately leveraged across digital experiences and AI-powered workflows. This role will help assess the organization's needs, identify a right-sized and scalable CMS/content system solution, and partner across content, design, product, technology, and other stakeholders to bring it to life. The ideal candidate understands the intersection of content design, UX writing, content systems, and CMS architecture and can translate complex content needs into structured, reusable, and governed systems. Experience building content infrastructure in a smaller organization or startup environment-particularly within a highly regulated industry-is highly valued. Prior experience with AI, agentic systems, or designing content structures that can support AI applications is a major plus.
Pay Rate: $80-90/hour
Duration: Ongoing contract
Location: Midtown Manhattan - 2-days/week onsite, 3-days/week remote
Responsibilities: Assess current content, workflows, tools, and processes to identify opportunities to create a more scalable and sustainable content system
Help evaluate CMS and content management approaches and recommend a right-sized solution based on organizational needs, technical capabilities, and future growth
Partner with product, design, technology, content, and business stakeholders to define requirements and guide CMS implementation
Structure and organize content so it can be modular, reusable, discoverable, and adaptable across channels and experiences
Establish reusable content models, patterns, templates, taxonomies, metadata, and other content structures that support consistency and scale
Develop content governance frameworks, standards, workflows, and processes that enable teams to manage content effectively
Apply content design and UX writing principles to ensure content structures support clear, intuitive, and user-centered experiences
Help define how content should be created, managed, reviewed, approved, maintained, and retired within the CMS
Identify opportunities to streamline content operations and reduce duplication, fragmentation, and manual processes
Collaborate with technical teams to translate content requirements into CMS architecture, schemas, components, and implementation requirements
Help establish the content infrastructure, structure, and governance needed to support future AI and agentic applications
Explore how structured content, metadata, taxonomies, and reusable content patterns can make organizational knowledge more accessible to AI systems
Partner with AI and technology teams to ensure content is structured in ways that can support future machine-assisted experiences and agentic workflows
Create documentation, guidelines, and governance models that make the new content system understandable and adoptable across the organization
Help lead change management and enablement as new content processes, tools, and standards are introduced
Balance near-term business needs with long-term scalability, avoiding unnecessary complexity while building a strong foundation for growth
Required Qualifications: 10+ years of experience in content design, content strategy, UX writing, content systems, or a related discipline
Hands-on experience helping implement, redesign, migrate, or establish a CMS or enterprise content system
Strong understanding of CMS architecture, content modeling, structured content, taxonomies, metadata, workflows, and governance
Experience working across various CMS platforms
Demonstrated ability to turn complex or fragmented content into clear, structured, reusable systems
Strong UX writing and content design skills, with an understanding of how content structure influences user experiences
Experience working cross-functionally with product, UX/design, engineering, technology, and business stakeholders
Experience evaluating technology or CMS solutions and helping organizations select a solution that is appropriately sized for their needs
Experience working in a smaller organization, startup, or environment where you have had to build systems and processes from the ground up
Experience within a highly regulated industry such as financial services, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, insurance, or other compliance-driven environments strongly preferred
Understanding of content governance and the operational processes required to maintain content quality and consistency at scale
Ability to work strategically while also getting into the details of content structures, models, workflows, and implementation
Comfortable operating in ambiguity and helping define both the problem and the solution
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to explain complex content and technical concepts to varied audiences
Experience with AI, generative AI, agentic systems, knowledge systems, or AI-enabled content workflows is a significant plus
Familiarity with how structured and governed content can support AI applications, retrieval, automation, and agentic workflows is highly desirable
