Our team has decades of automation experience, spanning hundreds of projects and thousands of automation configurations.Position Title: Lead Controls ElectricianPosition Description: The Lead Controls Electrician is a senior working lead responsible for the electrical build and installation execution of custom automation equipment. This role leads and mentors electricians/controls technicians across multiple projects while remaining hands-on in panel build, machine wiring, and troubleshooting. The Lead Controls Electrician plans and sequences electrical work, removes roadblocks, and provides clear status communication to project stakeholders—ensuring scope is completed safely, on time, and to Axis quality standards. The ideal candidate can balance multiple jobs in different phases (build, debug, runoff, install), works closely with controls and mechanical engineering, and drives a "no-rework" culture through standards, verification, and coaching.ResponsibilitiesBuild and wire custom electrical panels and machine systems per design, specifications and customer documentationInterpret and execute electrical schematics accurately (panel layout, machine wiring, I/O wiring, safety circuits as applicable)Perform disciplined troubleshooting and resolve electrical issues efficiently during build, power-up and on-site startupDocument changes/redlines and communicate updates throughout the build process to ensure accurate project records and smooth handoffsWire according to applicable codes/standards (NEC) and Axis workmanship standards; maintain clean, organized work areas and safe practicesSupport project success by focusing on quality, cost awareness and customer satisfaction.Lead and guide electrical team members across multiple projects, setting priorities and maintaining steady progress toward project milestonesMonitor electrical build progress and proactively communicate schedule risks, open issues, and resource needs to Electrical and Project ManagersRequest Quotes from Vendors and order material need to complete a project (Cables, Terminals, Wireway Divider, etc.)Collaborate cross-functionally with Controls Engineering, Mechanical, Project Management, Purchasing, and Assembly through all stages of the project to align scope and resolve integration issuesParticipate in customer-site installation, tear down (when applicable), and startup support; represent Axis professionally with a safety-first, customer-focused approachQualificationsMinimum 4 years of hands-on experience wiring custom automated machineryStrong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills; able to diagnose and resolve electrical issues efficientlyComfortable reading electrical schematics and working with complex mechanical systemsHigh attention to safety and detail; consistent adherence to safe work practices and quality checkpointsProven ability to lead and coordinate a team; comfortable delegating tasks and verifying completion/qualityStrong communication and self-direction; able to provide clear updates, escalate risks early, and document changesBasic computer proficiency (Excel, Word, OneNote) and ability to use digital tools for progress tracking and documentationAble to complete assigned tasks with minimal direct supervision and make sound decisions under pressureWillingness to travel up to 20% (local, national, international)Ability to maintain steady pace while bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and working in/under machinesAbility to lift up to 50 lbs as requiredWage: $32.00 - $36.00/hour (Wage dependent on experience)Additional Compensation: Overtime pay, travel payBenefits: Axis offers a comprehensive benefits package with no waiting period.
